The upcoming MBC thriller romance K-drama When the Phone Rings confirmed its production.
On September 24, MBC confirmed that Yoo Yeon Seok, Chae Soo Bin, Heo Nam Jun, and Jang Gyu Ri will be the main leads of the upcoming K-drama. They also shared that the series is aiming to be released in November.
When the Phone Rings will tell the story of a couple who has been in an arranged marriage for three years already. The two are pretending to be a normal and happy couple, but their lives change after the wife is suddenly abducted by a mysterious person. The upcoming K-drama will be based on the popular web novel of the same name published on Kakao Page.
The upcoming K-drama will be the joint work of director Park Sang Woo (The Forbidden Marriage and Terius Behind Me) and writer Kim Ji Woon (Doctor John and Hyde, Jekyll, Me).Â
It’s been reported that the production team is rushing to complete the K-drama, with a planned November premiere on MBC.
Yoo Yeon Seok will portray Baek Sa Eon, a man who has it all: looks, talent, and a privileged background. He is the youngest spokesperson for the Blue House and has a distinguished career as a war correspondent, hostage negotiation expert, and star anchor of a public broadcast. Despite his public image, he has a cold relationship with his wife, Hong Hee Joo.
Chae Soo Bin will play Hong Hee Joo, Baek Sa Eon’s wife. A traumatic childhood experience led her to become a sign language interpreter. Despite being in an arranged marriage with Baek Sa Eon, a kidnapping incident got her a desire to change her life.
Ji Sang Woo will play Heo Nam Joon, a charming psychiatrist who’s also a mystery-solving YouTuber. With a following of over 200,000, he investigates unsolved cases online. However, his obsession with the mysteries eventually draws him into a dangerous situation.
Lastly, Jang Gyu Ri will play Na Yu Ri, a talented broadcast announcer who graduated from a top university. She looks up to Baek Sa Eon and considers him as his role model, but little does she know that his wife is Hong Hee Joo, the sign language interpreter she collaborates with.
