On June 20th, the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 2 (Judge Park So-jung) held the first trial for Kwon Jin-young, who was indicted on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.

Kwon Jin-young is accused of having two employees without sleep disorders falsely claim symptoms to obtain prescriptions for Stilnox (a sleep-inducing drug containing zolpidem), receiving 17 pills in total on three occasions between January and July 2022.

Additionally, it was reported that she received zolpidem from someone else who was using it. According to the Narcotics Control Act, individuals who are not authorized to handle narcotics are prohibited from obtaining or trading psychotropic drugs.

At the trial, Kwon Jin-young’s lawyer said that Kwon Jin-young acknowledged all charges and expressed remorse. However, they requested leniency, stating that Kwon Jin-young had been prescribed sleeping pills since 2015 for the treatment and prevention of recurrent strokes, which had caused her to suffer from lower body paralysis.

Kwon Jin-young, who was previously singer Lee Sun-hee’s manager, founded Hook Entertainment in 2002. She had conflicts with Lee Seung-gi over the settlement of music usage fees.
