Light Shop Episode 8 Recap

The episode opens 5 years ago, with Young-ji in the hospital as she tells the nurse how the place she was before waking up felt eternal and like she had spent forever there. In the present, the staff are left shocked when Byeong-jin comes out of his coma, while Ji-young continues to try and save Hyun-min. Frustrated that he doesn’t remember her, she asks him whether he ever loved her and Hyun-min realises that no one else on the bus can see either of them. Eventually, he does remember her after she shows him his wounds and a tearful Hyun-min apologises to Ji-young.

Unfortunately, the doctors at the morgue decide to force Ji-young’s door open while she instructs Hyun-min to go to the light shop and find his light. Meanwhile, Seung-won goes to find Sun-hae and comes across Hye-won, profusely apologising to her for the accident. Seung-won tells her that he is finding everyone alive and taking them to the light shop and Hye-won instructs him to go find Hyun-ju. Meanwhile, Yoo-hee goes to the light shop to beg Won-young to get Hyun-ju, but he tells her that he cannot help.

Her desperation moves Won-young to tears as he slowly realises that she is his daughter. As it turns out, after making the deal with the previous owner, he had brought Yoo-hee her lightbulb, saving her. At the apartments, Seung-won tells Hyun-ju everything that she has been missing and she starts to realise that she might not be alive. As she comes to the realisation, Yoo-hee brings her daughter’s light to the apartment for her but she refuses to leave her mother. However, her mother convinces her to go back and after a tearful goodbye, she takes the light in her hands. Sun-hae, too, eventually decides to go to the shop for her light but decides to not go back and drops her light – opting to stay with Hye-won.

Meanwhile, Hyun-min reaches the light shop as well thanks to Ji-young and after some frantic searching, finds his light. Although she had wished to send him back, she is overcome with emotions when he finally does, realising that she is now alone in this world. At the hospital, Young-ji seems to remember her time in the light shop as she congratulates Ji-woong for getting discharged. Back at the shop, it turns out that Won-young is now the proud owner of Byeong-jin’s dog!

In the real world, it turns out that Hyun-ju remembers her mother and the light shop while at the shop while Yoo-hee hangs with Won-young and Max at the shop. However, Hyun-ju finds herself in an odd pickle when a mysterious young schoolgirl, Park Seon-u, decides to become her friend because she is the only one who can see her. Sung-sik, meanwhile, goes to meet Sang-hoon, a ghost who had saved his life and shares a toast with him. He eventually takes on Sang-hoon’s job and goes on to save Young-ji from an angry spirit.

Unfortunately, Hyun-min isn’t having a great time back in real life. He is unable to remember Ji-young and feels like he’s constantly stuck somewhere. As he comes back to the apartment, he tries to turn on the lights of the hallway and comes across the terrifying reality of Ji-young still lingering around him.

Light Shop Episode 8 Review

Light Shop Episode 8: Um Tae-goo, Seol Hyun
Light Shop Episode 8: Um Tae-goo, Seol Hyun

Light Shop comes to a fantastic end and one can’t argue that everything comes to a full 180 by the end of the eighth episode. The storytelling of the drama is extremely interesting and leaves you hooked on the screen. Things that one would never realise are connected come together so wonderfully that viewers will be hooked. However, the best thing I would say about this drama is how these different threads come together to tell a cohesive story. The series is simply fantastic and leaves you with tears in your eyes by the end of it all. All in all, this one’s a must-watch.
