The highly anticipated supernatural mystery series Light Shop Keeper, created by the mind behind Moving, is slated to debut exclusively on Disney+ on December 4.
This eight-part series features an impressive ensemble cast, including Ju Ji Hoon (Blood Free, Kingdom), Lee Jung Eun (Parasite), and Park Bo Young (Strong Girl Bong Soon). The series threads on six strangers mysteriously trapped in a dark and eerie neighborhood. With no recollection of arriving there, they must unravel the fragmented pieces of their forgotten pasts to escape.
Light Shop Keeper is an adaptation of the popular webtoon by Kangfull, who also adapted the series for television. The story follows these six individuals, each grappling with a traumatic event from their past that somehow ties them to their current predicament. As they carry on with their daily lives in this ominous setting, they begin to sense that something is gravely wrong, though they struggle to figure out exactly what. Their search for answers leads them to a mysterious light shop, tucked away at the end of a foreboding alley. The light shop and its enigmatic owner hold the key to unlocking not just the mysteries of the past, but the future as well.
Ju Ji Hoon stars as Jung Wonyoung, the light shop’s keeper, a pivotal figure in guiding the group toward the truth. Joining him are Park Bo Young (Strong Girl Bong-soon, Oh My Ghost), playing a nurse whose life was irrevocably changed after a near-death experience; Bae Seong Woo (Veteran, The King) as a detective; Lee Jung Eun as a mother tormented by loss; and Kim Min Ha as Sunhae, a screenwriter with her own buried secrets. As their stories intertwine, they are forced to confront their inner demons and seek out the truth hidden within their collective pasts.
Directed by Kim Hiewon and adapted for the screen by Kangfull himself, Light Shop Keeper is a thrilling follow-up to Moving, which was first released in 2023 and quickly became Disney+’s most-viewed international original series. With Moving reaching a massive hit worldwide, Light Shop Keeper is poised to follow in its footsteps, offering viewers an intense, emotionally charged narrative full of suspense and intrigue.
The release of Light Shop Keeper further expands Disney+’s growing collection of award-winning Korean dramas. Alongside titles like Moving, Big Bet, and The Worst of Evil, Light Shop Keeper is one of many compelling Korean stories to grace the platform this year.
Other notable series that premiered in 2024 include A Shop for Killers, The Tyrant, Blood Free, and Flex x Cop. Fans can expect even more content to arrive before the end of the year, with upcoming releases such as Unmasked and Gangnam B-Side.
Viewers will be able to stream the first four episodes of Light Shop Keeper starting on December 4, exclusively on Disney+.
