Lisa’s “New Woman” Outfit Accused of Plagiarism, Fashion Brand Stepped up to Defend

Recently, Lisa collaborated with Spanish singer Rosalía and released the single “New Woman”, captivating fans with her striking visuals and flawless, alluring figure. Notably, the idol sparked excitement among fans by wearing an outfit from a brand called LSEOU.

The feathered top worn by Lisa is named L’IMPÉRATRICE and is part of LSEOUL’s premium line, EMERGENCI BY LSEOUL, which debuted in the Incomparable collection in May of this year. The top is priced at $5,000 and is currently available on the brand’s official website.

However, a few days ago, designer Kateryna Chyrka posted a TikTok video accusing Lisa’s top of being a copy of her design. Specifically, Kateryna claimed that in early May 2024, she reached out to LSEOUL to propose a collaboration, but the brand did not respond to her message.

Kateryna Chyrka, the designer accusing LSEOUL of plagiarism, claimed that later in May, LSEOUL held a grand fashion show to launch their Incomparable collection, which included the L’IMPÉRATRICE design that Lisa wore in the “New Woman” music video. From her perspective, Kateryna believes that LSEOUL plagiarized her idea, as she had previously designed a similar feather-inspired crop top with long sleeves for her graduation collection. Her video has since garnered nearly 1 million views on TikTok.

Amid the ongoing controversy, LSEOUL has issued a statement refuting the plagiarism accusations.

A brand representative stated, “Fashion is about inheritance and development, with trends constantly evolving. Moreover, feather material has been used in fashion for a long time. Many renowned fashion houses worldwide have employed this material. Even in Vietnam, goose feathers have appeared in the legend of My Chau – Trong Thuy, and this material has been used in many famous designs. Our design team and artisans at LSEOUL also consider feather material one of their sources of inspiration for their designs. Therefore, we once again assert that LSEOUL has not plagiarized or copied the ideas of designer Kateryna Chyrka.”

Regarding the claim that the designer messaged them for a collaboration but was ignored, LSEOUL provided a detailed explanation. However, due to legal reasons, the brand currently does not want to release the entire message exchange between the two parties.

It is known that Kateryna’s first message to LSEOUL on May 7 consisted of only one question: “Hello, would you like to collaborate?” Additionally, she did not include any images or specific proposals.

Because LSEOUL did not know who owned the account and the vague collaboration offer, they chose not to respond. Kateryna sent a second message on August 18 (after Lisa’s music video was released), accusing LSEOUL of plagiarism. She also demanded compensation and a public apology, threatening to escalate the issue to social media or involve lawyers if her demands were not met.

As for the timeline of the product’s creation, LSEOUL clarified that although the Incomparable collection debuted on May 17, the feathered top worn by Lisa had been conceptualized and created 2 months earlier. Specifically, LSEOUL completed the sketch for the design on February 24. On March 23 and April 22, LSEOUL conducted fitting sessions with models.

Not only did LSEOUL provide evidence and refute the accusations from the foreign designer, but they are also in contact with Kateryna Chyrka to resolve the issue, urging her to be more careful in her statements to avoid affecting LSEOUL’s customers, particularly Lisa.

“As a brand, a professional fashion entity favored by many major stars worldwide, we will not respond to these baseless claims through messages. This is an action we do not appreciate. We are ready to wait and respond to your official information through email. Therefore, Kateryna Chyrka’s claim that LSEOUL ignored her messages or disrespected her is not accurate“, the brand stated.

“To clarify the brand’s stance, we also ask designer Kateryna Chyrka to be cautious in her statements, especially those concerning Lisa. Throughout the years of developing the brand, customer rights and experience have always been LSEOUL’s top priority. Lisa is a customer of LSEOUL, so we hope that any concerns will be addressed directly to us without involving Lisa in any situation,” the LSEOUL representative emphasized.
