Alleged Sexual Assault

On November 22, JTBC’s “Scandal Supervisor” aired a segment accusing a 5th-generation idol’s agency CEO of sexual assault. The group in question was speculated to be MADEIN, with member Gaeun, who was then in a hiatus, rumored as the victim.

The broadcast detailed horrifying allegations, including a conversation between the victim and the CEO, in which he made inappropriate advances and forced physical contact. The victim’s resistance was ignored, and she endured harassment for two hours.

It was later revealed that the victim, allegedly member Gaeun, agreed to go on a date with the CEO (DIGITAL MASTA) under pressure to ensure her continued participation in the group. During the date, the CEO reportedly locked her in his office and groped her, then forcibly kissed her and touched her inappropriately while at a movie theater. Gaeun’s parents confronted the CEO, who initially denied the allegations but later admitted to “making a mistake.”

Despite these serious allegations, 143 Entertainment issued multiple statements denying misconduct, erasing Gaeun’s presence from official platforms, and threatening legal action.

Meanwhile, member Yeseo liked fan comments criticizing the agency, including statements calling the CEO a “dirty pig” and encouraging the members to leave the company alongside Gaeun, casting further doubt on the conducts and claims of 143 Entertainment.

Fans have since started a truck protest demanding for proper investigation regarding the sexual harassment case, but their demands seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

Suspected Physical Abuse

Reports of physical abuse arose when member Mashiro appeared on a live stream on October 27 with visible bruises. Fans were deeply concerned about her health and sought clarification from 143 Entertainment, but the company provided no response.

Instead of addressing the issue, the agency covered Mashiro’s bruises with a hand band during MADEIN’s concert on the same day, presenting it as a part of her outfit.

This blatant attempt to mask the issue rather than resolve it highlighted the agency’s neglect of the members’ well-being, leaving fans outraged and demanding accountability.

Sexualization of Minor

Back in October 4, Serina, a minor member of MADEIN, was sexualized for not wearing safety shorts of an appropriate length. Stylists are well aware of the appropriate length for safety shorts, as this is not a new issue within the industry.

Concerned fans reached out to the company, urging them to take action by either editing or removing the contentious portions of the video. However, no response was provided by the company, and the video remained unaltered.

Poor Management

143 Entertainment’s mishandling of MADEIN also include exploitative practices and unprofessional behavior.

In particular, the music video for MADEIN’s debut track, “UNO” relied heavily on AI-generated content, sparking backlash for its lack of emotional depth and quality. The CEO later admitted fault and promised a re-edit, which failed to repair the damage.

On December 28, an exposé was published, alleging that the agency failed to pay over 40 staff members for their work on MADEIN’s debut music video, revealing exploitative labor practices.

Then, when fans discovered unpaid wages and mishandling of finances within the agency. In January, the agency also began blocking fans on social media who sought answers, displaying a lack of transparency and accountability

Additionally, after Gaeun deleted her Instagram posts and unfollowed the agency in November, 143 Entertainment announced her indefinite hiatus for “health reasons.” Later, Gaeun was removed from the group entirely, and her solo content was erased. Fans expressed outrage over promotional materials where Gaeun’s image was poorly edited out, exemplifying the agency’s unprofessionalism.
