Nam Joo-hyuk & Cho Seung-woo’s “East Palace” Film Set Destroyed by Fire, No Injuries Reported

According to fire authorities, the blaze broke out at a drama set in Misan-myeon, Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province, at approximately 2:08 a.m. on December 21.

The fire was extinguished after about two hours, but it caused extensive property damage. A 3,655㎡ building on the set and lighting equipment stored inside were completely burned.

The affected site was confirmed to be the set where “East Palace,” a historical fantasy starring Nam Joo-hyuk, Roh Yoon-seo, and Cho Seung-woo, was being filmed.

In a statement to OSEN, the production team of “East Palace” said, “Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. We are working closely with the production company, police, and fire authorities to address the situation and determine the cause of the fire.”

The series follows Gucheon (Nam Joo-hyuk), who possesses the ability to traverse the realm of spirits, and Saenggang (Roh Yoon-seo), a court maid harboring secrets. Together, they are summoned by the king (Cho Seung-woo) to uncover the curse haunting the East Palace.

The project has drawn attention for its creative team, including writers Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won, known for their work on “Bulgasal: Immortal Souls” and “The Guest,” which established a distinctive Korean occult universe. Director Choi Jung-gyu, acclaimed for his versatile storytelling in “The Devil Judge” and “Children of Nobody,” also joins the team.

The series’ release date has not yet been announced.
