Baby V.O.X reunited as a full group for the first time in 14 years at the recent 2024 KBS Gayo Daechukje, stirring nostalgia among fans.
This reunion also reignited interest in the current status of Lee Gai, who left the group and disappeared from the public eye for a long time.
On January 3 and 7, Lee Gai left comments on a fan-operated YouTube channel that had uploaded old Baby V.O.X videos.
In her comment, she revealed, “I changed my name and am living under a different name now. Recently, broadcasters have been contacting me and even visiting the restaurant where I worked, so I’ve had to take a break from work.”
She expressed deep remorse to fans, “I deceived the fan club and the public and have not lived a single day in peace since. Even after 20 years, I couldn’t speak about it anywhere and lived in silence, consumed by guilt.”
Reflecting on Baby V.O.X’s recent performance, she expressed her affection for the group, “Watching the members beautifully standing on stage brought back old memories for me.”
As an original member of Baby V.O.X, formed in 1997, Lee Gai initially claimed to have been born in 1978. However, she was actually born in 1968.
She explained that her agency persuaded her to lie about her age, telling her, “You look like you’re 20. Everyone does this. How many years are you going to be active for?“
She admitted, “I was lured by promises of making a fortune and foolishly deceived the fan club and the public. But as they say, you can’t hide the truth forever. When my real age was discovered, I had to leave the group.”
She tearfully recalled her departure, “The members begged me not to leave and cried as they held onto me. But my conscience wouldn’t allow me to stay or keep in contact with them.”
