NewJeans Didn’t Use Group Name and Logo on Stage after Contract Termination?

Recently, the 5 members of NewJeans performed as guests at the concert of Japanese top group YOASOBI, which was held on December 7 in Korea.

Despite performing hit songs such as “How Sweet” and “Right Now,” the members introduced themselves individually, as Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, without mentioning the group name “NewJeans.”

Notably, the group’s logo and name, which would typically be displayed on stage screens, were completely omitted. During the concert, YOASOBI briefly referred to them as “NewJeans,” but this was the only instance of the group name being mentioned.

This unusual situation quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread discussions among fans and the public. Some netizens mocked the situation, referencing a statement from the Korea Entertainment Producers’ Association (KEPA), calling it a bizarre yet comical scenario. Others lamented the ambiguity, jokingly asking, “Do we now have to call them A.K.A. (also known as) NewJeans?”

The performance has raised questions about how the group will handle their upcoming commitments. Observers speculate that the members may continue to operate individually rather than under the “NewJeans” name, at least in the short term.

Previously, NewJeans declared the termination of their contract with ADOR via a press conference. Afterwards, ADOR has refuted such a claim, stating that the contract is still valid and filed a lawsuit against NewJeans.

Meanwhile, industry organizations such as KEPA, alongside the Korea Management Federation, have released official statements urging NewJeans to retract their “irresponsible” decision and resume normal activities.
