NewJeans’ Minji, who held the No.1 spot until the end of last year, is among those affected.
The Korea Corporate Reputation Research Institute extracted brand big data for 680 girl group members from September 20th to October 20th and analyzed their personal brand reputation.
BLACKPINK’s Jennie took the top spot. After placing 9th in August and 6th last month, Jennie now claims No.1. aespa’s Karina and IVE’s Jang Wonyoung followed in second and third places, respectively. NewJeans’ Minji, who ranked first at the end of last year, and Hanni, who was 26th, did not make the rankings this month.
This sharp decline is thought to be influenced by ongoing conflicts with their company. HYBE, the parent company of NewJeans‘ agency ADOR, accused former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin, known as “NewJeans’ mom”, of attempting to seize management rights. Min Hee-jin strongly denied the allegations, leading to a legal dispute. On October 15th, NewJeans’ Hanni appeared as a reference at a National Assembly hearing, claiming she had experienced workplace bullying.
In April, NewJeans ranked 10th in idol brand reputation, dropping to 29th in May and 48th in June. Despite their Korean comeback in May and their Japanese debut in June, their ranking fell to 50th in July and 46th in August, before finally dropping out of the chart in September.
Brand reputation scores are calculated through an analysis of big data, assessing the influence of consumers’ online habits on brand consumption. The analysis measures both positive and negative evaluations, media interest, and consumer engagement and communication. The brand reputation index also includes an evaluation of brand value through brand influence measurement.
