NewJeans Stuns in 90s Minimalism for ELLE’s Digital Cover, Reflects on Recent Activities and Bonding Moments

On the 1st, fashion magazine ELLE revealed the special digital project “D Edition” cover, featuring NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein) in collaboration with Calvin Klein. In the released pictorial, NewJeans flawlessly embodied the 1990s minimalism concept, showcasing their professional side.

In the interview conducted alongside the photoshoot, NewJeans shared their thoughts on their double single “How Sweet,” released in May, and their Japanese debut single “Supernatural,” released in June. Minji, in particular, expressed her excitement about “Supernatural,” saying, “It was our official debut single in Japan, so the anticipation was really high. It was a fun and meaningful experience as we were able to showcase music and dance that suited us well.”

Danielle, who first unveiled her self-composed song “Butterflies” during a fan meeting at Tokyo Dome in June, revealed, “I poured my desire to always be with Bunnies (our fandom) into the song,” expressing her affection for the fans. Hanni recalled, “I spent a long time looking at the photos I took of Bunnies from the stage, where each fan’s expression was captured so clearly. Seeing the happy faces I couldn’t notice from the stage made me emotional.”

Hyein, who had to take a break from activities due to an injury, reflected, “Seeing NewJeans from a step away, the word ‘happiness’ suited the team the most. Watching the performances and listening to the music gave me a clear sense of joy during that precious time.” Haerin shared a special moment of bonding with the members, saying, “Right before we go on stage, when we shout ‘fighting!’ and look into each other’s eyes, I feel how much we rely on one another.”

NewJeans’ digital cover, moving cover, fashion film, and video interview can be found on ELLE‘s website and social media channels. The full story of the pictorial will be available in the November issue of ELLE.
