Ok Taecyeon and Seohyun’s New Drama Faces Trouble: Lead Actress Injured, Cultural Heritage Damage Allegations

On January 2, a netizen reported witnessing the alleged damage on December 30, 2024, sharing several photos as evidence. The images show staff members hammering nails and installing props, such as lanterns, within the site.

The netizen stated, “I visited Byeongsan Seowon around 3 PM on December 30 and noticed about seven KBS drama production vehicles parked nearby. As I approached the site, I saw a large number of staff bustling about. It was only when I reached the entrance that I realized Byeongsan Seowon was being used as a filming location. As this is a precious cultural heritage site listed as Historic Site No.260 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, I felt uncomfortable entering.

The netizen further claimed, “Inside, I witnessed a shocking scene. Props for the drama were placed all over the interior, and some staff were hammering nails into wooden pillars to hang lanterns. Many lanterns were already hanging from the columns of Mandaeru Pavilion.”

When the netizen confronted the staff, asking if such actions were permissible, the staff reportedly responded irritably, stating that they had received approval from Andong-si and suggesting the netizen contact the local government for verification.

The netizen contacted Andong-si’s Cultural Heritage Department, where an official confirmed that filming permission had been granted. However, when questioned about the nails and potential damage to the heritage site, the official expressed surprise and promised immediate removal of the installations.

On December 31, the netizen followed up with Andong-si’s Cultural Heritage Department, only to learn that filming had continued as planned. Disappointed with the lack of thorough action, the netizen reported the issue to the broadcasting station and the Cultural Heritage Administration.

The incident highlights broader concerns about filming practices at cultural heritage sites. The netizen noted, “Even in modern historical sites, it’s shocking to hear that walls or columns are sometimes dismantled for filming purposes. While hammering a few nails might seem trivial, it requires great caution even in ordinary hanok homes, let alone heritage sites.”

The netizen questioned whether allowing filming at cultural heritage sites is appropriate, criticizing public broadcaster KBS for its oversight. They emphasized, “It’s appalling that such an incident occurred during the production of a public broadcaster’s drama. This is not something to be dismissed lightly.”

Regarding this, KBS stated that they are “currently investigating the matter” but have not provided a clear stance. Meanwhile, lead actress Seohyun’s recent injury has added to concerns. Photos of Seohyun using a cane at the 2024 KBS Drama Awards, which was held on December 31, 2024, have been circulating online, prompting worry among fans. Seohyun’s agency assured fans that she is recovering quickly.

KBS2’s new drama “The First Night With the Duke” (written by Jeon Seon-young and directed by Lee Woong-hee) follows Cha Seon-chaek (played by Seohyun), a minor background character in a novel, whose life takes a dramatic turn when her body is possessed by the spirit of a modern-day college student. She inadvertently spends a night with the obsessive male lead Gyeongseong-gun (played by Ok Taecyeon).
