P1H has once again shown their knack for delivering catchy tunes with its latest release, P1Harmony SAD SONG MV from its 7th mini album. As a group that has consistently flown under the radar despite having a catalogue full of potential global hits, it’s refreshing to see them continue to evolve. Their previous album, Killin’ It, was a standout, cementing them as one of the most exciting K-pop acts in recent memory. I was especially excited to see how they would follow it up, and Sad Song does not disappoint.
P1Harmony SAD SONG MV Review
Right off the bat, the track grabs your attention with a Latin-infused beat that’s easy to vibe with. The production is clean, and the group’s vocals shine throughout, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’ve heard this type of song before. It’s reminiscent of something NCT 127 might put out, with its repetitive structure and pop appeal. It’s radio-friendly for sure, but I found myself wanting a bit more depth or variation as the song played on. The chorus is catchy, don’t get me wrong, but after a few listens, it starts to blend in with the rest of the track without much contrast or build-up. It’s fun, but not groundbreaking.
Now, the music video itself is vibrant and playful, which perfectly suits the tone of the song. P1Harmony looks like they’re having a blast, and their chemistry really shines through. The visuals are slick, with bright colours and fun choreography that fits the song’s carefree vibe. There’s nothing too heavy here, and that’s okay—it’s meant to be a fun, feel-good track, and the video reflects that. It’s not the kind of MV that will blow you away with its concept or storytelling, but it’s definitely entertaining and worth watching if you’re a fan of the group.
However, what holds SAD SONG back is the repetition. The track leans heavily on the same melody throughout, and while that makes it easy to get stuck in your head, it also makes it feel a bit one-note. P1Harmony is known for their versatility, and while this song shows they can pull off a lighter, more pop-oriented sound, I couldn’t help but feel like there’s not enough going on under the surface. The Latin touches are a nice addition, giving it a fresh twist, but they’re not explored enough to fully make the track stand out from other K-pop releases this year.
One of the strengths of P1Harmony, though, is their energy, and that’s definitely present here. Even if the song itself doesn’t offer a lot of surprises, the group’s performance elevates it. They bring so much personality and enthusiasm to both the song and the video that you can’t help but smile while watching. It’s clear that they’re having fun with this release, and that makes it all the more enjoyable to watch. The choreography, while not overly complicated, fits the tone of the song perfectly and lets the members’ individual charms shine through.
But, if I’m being honest, after the impact of their last album, Killin’ It, which featured the intense and bold track by the name of the title and also tracks like Late Night Calls, I See U. I was hoping for something a bit more substantial with SAD SONG. Killin’ It had this strong, in-your-face energy that really showcased the group’s potential. This song feels like more of a filler track in comparison, something that’s fun in the moment but doesn’t leave a lasting impression.
That being said, this is still a good song for what it is. It’s not trying to be the next big hit or a game-changer; it’s a fun, easy listen that’s perfect for playing on repeat during a chill day. It’s light, breezy, and perfect for the end of summer vibes, even though we’re already heading into fall. For fans who enjoy a catchy chorus and some laid-back energy, this song will definitely hit the right notes.
In the end, SAD SONG is a solid, if somewhat safe, release from P1Harmony. The group continues to show they can pull off different styles, but this track doesn’t quite capture the same excitement as some of their past releases. The music video is fun, the vocals are strong, and the production is clean, but there’s just something missing that keeps it from being truly memorable. For what it is, though, it’s an enjoyable listen and a great way to keep fans engaged as they wait for the rest of the album.
