With the finale of SBS’s weekend thriller “Buried Hearts” airing on April 12, lead actors Park Hyung-sik and Hong Hwa-yeon offered sincere reflections, leaving viewers with a lasting emotional impression.
Park Hyung-sik’s portrayal of Dong-joo was praised for its depth and intensity, cementing the role as another milestone in his career. In a post-finale interview, the actor shared, “Buried Hearts felt longer than it actually was. It wasn’t easy enduring Dong-joo’s harrowing life, but the team helped me get through it.”

He added, “Like Dong-joo, I also carry some wounds, but I felt connected to his sense of responsibility and perseverance.” Notably, Park performed many of his own stunts, including water torture, gunfire scenes, and open-sea swimming, further enhancing the drama’s realism. “Even now, I can’t believe I pulled it off. I’m just grateful I was able to show parts of myself through this role,” he said. Reflecting on the yacht scene at sunset, he noted, “That moment of stillness, watching the sunset, it’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
Hong Hwa-yeon, who portrayed Yeo Eun-nam, the conflicted granddaughter of Daesan Group’s chairman, also shared a heartfelt message. Balancing anxiety, empathy, and restrained love, her performance brought emotional weight to the latter half of the drama. Her quiet but powerful line, “You did well, Dong-joo,” marked one of the show’s most poignant moments.

“Buried Hearts was a project that brought me immense happiness from start to finish,” said Hong. “I hope I’ll be remembered as an actress who can bring even a small smile to people’s faces.”
A dark tale of power, greed, and revenge, “Buried Hearts” proved to be a turning point for both Park Hyung-sik and Hong Hwa-yeon. Their deeply personal reflections added another layer of meaning to a drama already praised for its emotional gravity and compelling performances.
