Police Begin Investigation on SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu “Leaked Shirtless Photos” Issue

According to industry reports on September 10, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station has confirmed the complaint filed by a netizen, referred to as “A,” through the public petition system. The police have stated that the case has been referred to the Investigation Unit 1 and 2 for review and further action. Updates on the investigation will be communicated via mail, phone, or text.

Recently, “A” filed a report through the public petition system, accusing the L’Occitane Korea employee of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (illegal filming with a camera).

“A” stated, “It is likely the employee knew that the photo could cause sexual desire or embarrassment,” urging a thorough investigation and strict punishment.

Earlier, a L’Occitane Korea employee sparked controversy by sharing private photos of Mingyu, who serves as the brand’s Asia ambassador, on their personal social media account. The employee posted multiple photos of Mingyu, including a shirtless shot taken during an ad shoot, with the caption, “Mingyu is taking up a large part of my photo album. I was too anxious to delete them, but maybe it’s time to clean up.”

In response, L’Occitane Korea issued an apology on their official social media account on September 3, stating, “We have no excuse for the unauthorized posting of unofficial photos related to the L’Occitane Asia Ambassador campaign by one of our employees. We accept full responsibility and offer our sincere apologies.”

The company further added, “The employee has been immediately removed from all duties, and disciplinary action (suspension) has been taken.”

Additionally, L’Occitane Korea announced plans to introduce regular training for all employees on intellectual property, portrait rights, publicity rights, and privacy protection related to brand ambassadors to prevent such incidents from happening again.
