Quick Reviews: MEOVV’s “MEOW” is about what you’d expect from a Teddy girl group, for better and worse

MEOWV, the highly-anticipated five-member group from Teddy‘s THEBLACKLABEL, have finally released their debut single “MEOW“. The release certainly checks off all the boxes of a debut, with lingering individual shots of the members, highlights of their attitude, vocals, and rapping, while even shoehorning in a dance break seemingly just to show what they can do there as well.

I feel like I say this a lot, but the potential is there and I see the vision in terms of the members themselves. That said, with BLACKPINK still lurking, “homages” to them everywhere, and BABYMONSTER already debuting, it would’ve been nice if MEOVV played against expectations somewhat and went to another part of the Teddy soundscape like “Playing With Fire” or “As If It’s Your Last” rather than something that makes them a bit of a retread on debut. Of course, if you do like that sound — and let’s not kid ourselves, it is apparently massively popular — then there should be a lot to like for you here.
