Recap: ‘Queen Woo’ Episodes 5 and 6

Episode five begins with a flashback of Ji Chang Wook getting treated for a war injury three years ago. He falls prey to a deceptive plan to produce him an heir, and he sleeps with the queen’s sister, Jung Yoo Mi. Back to the Goguryeo era in the present day, Jeon Jong Seo continues on her journey to find a successor for the king, while her entourage is in fear of the warriors pursuing them.

Kim Mu Yeol is investigating the king’s death and remains suspicious of everyone in the palace, especially the head secretary. Little does he know, the queen’s father is contemplating murdering Kim Mu Yeol, because he questions where the prime minister’s loyalty lies. Evidence in the investigation leads to the shaman’s headquarters. She admits to her involvement due to her herbs being the ones found in the poison. However, she keeps the murderer’s identity a secret and takes it to her grave. The shaman failed to survive a surprise attack on her and Kim Mu Yeol. He realizes that someone wants to murder him just like they did the king.

An important message arrives for the chief priest, and she learns that the shaman prophecy about the fourth prince ascending the throne will come true. The message is sent to the palace. Jeon Jong Seo’s entourage is attacked on their journey, and she joins the battle and defends herself. Jeon Jong Seo and Kim Mu Yeol set up traps for their enemies. Jeon Jong Seo is successful, but the leader of warriors wants revenge.

Episode six begins with a flashback almost 30 years ago. Child Kim Mu Yeol discovers his grandfather’s corpse, and his father explains that he was murdered because the former king felt threatened by their intelligent family. His male ancestors used their intelligence to save the kingdom in the past. Before entering the palace as a prime minister, Kim Mu Yeol was set on revenge against the royal family due to his grandfather’s death. 

Jeon Jong Seo is still fleeing from the warriors, who attacked her entourage earlier. Kim Mu Yeol is the true villain who was plotting evil against the royal family all along. His grandfather’s corpse is buried in the basement room of the palace. He is monitoring the queen’s every move on her journey to find a successor. Others in the palace start suspecting Kim Mu Yeol and even realize that the queen’s quest to marry one of the princes was his idea. He wanted to take over the kingdom and hoped the princes will kill each other in competition for the throne.

Jeon Jong Seo chooses the fourth prince as her husband, unaware of the sinister plot. Her entourage end up in a three-way battle with the warriors and the faithful. Thankfully, the queen’s group escapes and arrives at the fourth prince’s residence.The enemy warriors catch up to the queen and stop her new union, while the palace discovers the ingredients the shaman supplied for his drink couldn’t have killed the king. The queen’s sister has poison in her room and her father removes the evidence. Kim Mu Yeol continues his revenge plan despite his fear of opposition.
