Today (December 18) marks the 7th anniversary of Jonghyun’s passing. He left us on December 18, 2017, at the age of 27, yet he remains a “shining star.” On this day, SM Entertainment paid tribute to him by posting a photo of his performance on SHINee’s official social media, accompanied by the heartfelt message, “We always love you.”
Minho also shared his heartfelt emotions towards Jonghyun on social media. He wrote, “Thanks to you, it’s a warm winter today. I miss you more this year, hyung,” expressing his longing for his late friend. He also shared, “I just visited hyung, and I met your mother after a long time. Don’t worry, I comforted her well,” sending a message of warmth. Minho’s sincere words deeply touched the hearts of fans.
Jonghyun debuted as SHINee’s main vocalist in 2008 and was not only known for his exceptional singing talent but also his songwriting and composing skills. He showcased his unique emotions through songs like SHINee’s “Juliet” and “View,” as well as IU’s “A Gloomy Clock” and Lee Hi’s “Breath.” His comforting words and self-composed songs on his radio show “Blue Night with Jonghyun” continue to provide strength to many to this day.
The title track “Shine” from Jonghyun’s last solo album, “Poet|Artist,” became a symbolic song for him. Following its release, his family established the “Shine Foundation” to support the growth of cultural and artistic figures. His music and messages continue to be a light to others.
“Depression swallowed me whole.” Jonghyun’s note left behind before his passing still leaves us with much to ponder. However, his music and the light he left behind will never disappear. Even after seven years, Jonghyun is still remembered as a “shining star” in the hearts of many.
