SNL Korea’ Faces Backlash Over Parody of NewJeans Hanni’s Audit Testimony: ‘Racist and Disgusting’

SNL Korea has come under fire for airing what is being deemed a tasteless sketch, as it mocked NewJeans member Hanni’s recent testimony at an audit recently held within the industry into working conditions.

The skit was branded ”racist” and ”vile” by critics outraged over its insensitive portrayal of the K-pop star’s appearance and ethnicity.

NewJeans member Hanni recently appeared as a witness at the audit testimony, where she reported bullying and name-calling by company executives.

Many welcomed her testimony and praised her for addressing such an important issue, but the climate soon changed when SNL Korea poked fun at her appearance during the hearing.

The sketch re-created some key moments from the audit, including an interaction where a board member tried to snap a selfie with Hanni and her testimony where she sat on the stand crying.

The parody angered many viewers, who denounced the show for the way Hanni spoke and pronounced certain words, an aspect they described as offensive and racist.

Another chimed in, saying: “‘It gets funnier the more you listen to it’ is not funny; make fun of someone’s pronunciation like this on a foreign language group? embarrassing.

” Just sayin’, if a Korean gave testimony in America and spoke English like this, would it be a funny parody?”

Some viewers expressed discontent that a serious and sensitive topic was used for satire, calling it “disgusting”.

It’s not the first time that SNL Korea has drawn criticism with its sketches. Following her testimony, fans called for an apology because they felt that the parody was inappropriate and disgusting.

As of this moment, neither SNL Korea nor the agency of NewJeans has responded to the increasing backlash.
