Netizens were amused by the usage of second-gen K-pop songs for the Malaysian prime minister’s posts on Instagram.

On November 25, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim uploaded several posts on his official Instagram account, which recounted his meeting with Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) and OCI Holdings in Seoul.

While the meeting made headlines due to Malaysia’s investment support and Hyundai’s expansion to the country’s automotive ecosystem, netizens were instead focused on the account’s usage of K-pop songs for its background music.

The Prime Minister has included songs such as Girls’ Generation’s “Gee,” which was the pinnacle song of second-gen K-pop back then and propelled the “Nation’s Girl Group” to stardom and success.

Meanwhile, other posts also included 2NE1’s “Come Back Home,” a nostalgic throwback for many longtime K-pop fans. The latest post also used the band CNBLUE’s “Love,” furthering the amusement of netizens.

An earlier reel also included BIGBANG G-Dragon’s newest single “Power,” which the BIGBANG leader released on October 31, and performed live at the 2024 MAMA Awards.

Another post also featured BTS’ 2020 hit “Dynamite,” the group’s second breakthrough song in their career that further catapulted them into global success and fortified their already-flourishing worldwide recognition.

Some reels also featured Zico’s viral “Any Song” and Super Junior’s “Sorry, Sorry.”

Here’s how netizens reacted to the posts:

  • “Umm the song??”
  • “Yup! SK’s No. 1 Girl Group’s song.”
  • “The song choice! you have taste in music.”
  • “We stan a fellow blackjack.”
  • “Bro’s been cooking since yesterday?”
