Song Jae-rim’s Funeral: The Sky Also Wept amid Tears of Family and Colleagues 

The final rites for the funeral of late actor Song Jae-rim took place at noon on November 14 at the Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital in Seoul’s Yeongdeungpo District. The somber mood was deepened by the morning rain, symbolizing shared sorrow.

The ceremony followed Christian traditions, and close colleagues assisted in carrying Song’s casket. Family members then took his portrait to the Seoul City Crematorium, marking his final journey.

On November 12, Song Jae-rim was found deceased at his Seongdong residence at the age of 39. A friend, who had planned to meet him for lunch, discovered him and alerted the authorities. The police confirmed there was no evidence of foul play, and a note was reportedly found at the scene. 

Currently, Song Jae-rim’s personal account profile features the phrase “Starting a Long Journey,” and his last post was made 41 weeks ago, in January this year. However, it has been reported that he was still uploading posts and stories as recently as October.

One of Song Jae-rim’s fans shared, “The phrase ‘Starting a Long Journey’ was added only a few days ago. The photos were cleared on the same day. When I checked on the morning of the 12th, all the photos were suddenly gone.”

Another fan added sorrowfully, “He had kept the comments open and was interacting with people. He cleared everything on that day.” Fans expressed their disbelief and sadness, saying, “That’s why it’s even harder to believe.”

Song Jae-rim’s friends and fellow entertainers have paid tribute, expressing deep regret and sharing their hope for his peace. Actor Jung Il-woo, who starred alongside him in “The Moon Embracing the Sun”, left a heartfelt message saying, “Please find happiness there, brother. I’m sorry…let’s meet again someday.”

Up until recently, Song Jae-rim remained active in television dramas, theater, and musicals. This year, he appeared in the TVing original series “Queen Woo”, the Rakuten Viki series “My Military Valentine”, the play “Wife” (tentative title) which ran until February, and the musical “The Rose of Versailles”, which closed last month. He had also completed filming the movie “Crash: The Man Who Lost Everything” (literal translation)..

After concluding his contract with his former agency last year, Song Jae-rim had been continuing his career independently.

Meanwhile, harassment by sasaeng fans was identified as a major cause for the late actor’s death.
