At the press conference for Season 2 of Netflix’s series “Squid Game” held at DDP in Seoul on the morning of December 9, Director Hwang Dong-hyuk introduced Season 2.
Hwang explained, “There are several distinctions this season. One key aspect is the pro-and-con voting system for game progression, which was briefly introduced in Season 1. In Season 2, this mechanism will be implemented in every game and hold significant weight. With so much talk about voting these days, I think viewers will find it intriguing to draw connections between the show and current events. The new games introduced in Season 2 will also be exciting to watch.”
He added, “The story will span across Seasons 2 and 3, but if I were to focus solely on Season 2, it reflects how both Korea and the rest of the world are increasingly divided, with conflicts escalating as people draw lines and antagonize each other. This applies to internal conflicts within nations as well as wars between countries. In ‘Squid Game’, you will also see division, fragmentation, and humans antagonizing one another. I think viewers will feel that the world of ‘Squid Game’ resembles the real world. I hope the series provides an opportunity for reflection.”
Meanwhile, “Squid Game” Season 2 tells the story of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the deadly game seeking revenge, and his confrontation with the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung-hun).
