On January 1, Netflix Korea published a short teaser video on its official YouTube account, along with a new announcement.
In the video, the girl robot “Young-hee” —iconic for her role in the “Red Light, Green Light” game from “Squid Game” Seasons 1 and 2—can be seen being moved somewhere and encountering a boy robot – Chul-soo.
Chul-soo’s appearance resembles that of Young-hee, featuring chubby cheeks and a hat, creating a childlike image. Shortly after Chul-soo’s appearance, the teaser shows a traffic light turning green, sparking speculation about a game related to traffic lights in “Squid Game 3”.
In addition, when Netflix Korea posted a video titled “Squid Game Season 3 2025 Release” on YouTube, it wrote in the description below, “Watch ‘Squid Game’ on Netflix on June 27.” The video is currently set to private.
Previously, director Hwang Dong-hyeok previously stated in an interview with American media outlet Variety that “Squid Game” Season 3 is expected to be released sometime next summer or fall, so many believe that June 27 is the official release date.
However, Netflix has since addressed speculations of June 27 being the official release date, saying, “We will announce the exact release date of Season 3 as soon as it is confirmed. We ask for your understanding.”
Additionally, speculations about the death games that will be featured in “Squid Game 3” has quickly emerged.
In particular, based on the appearance of Young-hee and Chul-soo, some think that the games “Jack and Jill” (where players have to hold a bucket of water as they run up a hill) and “Dong, Dong, Dongdaemun” (a game where players pass through a gate while singing a song, and the gatekeepers catch the players with their hands) may be included.
The appearance of a clock at the beginning also prompts suspicions about a game where doors close at midnight, while some believe that a group jump rope game may be introduced.
Moreover, paintings on the wall of the players’ sleep quarters, which accurately depicted the games in Season 1, also fueled speculations. Based on these paintings, many netizens suspect that games such as monkey bars and human chess (or minesweeper) will be included.
On the other hand, released on December 26, “Squid Game Season 2” enjoyed massive success. The series topped the charts in 93 countries and became the global number one in Netflix’s series category, dominating the Top 10 lists within just two days in nations like the United States, France, Mexico, the UK, Hong Kong, and Turkey.
