During the official press conference for Netflix’s Squid Game Season 3 held on June 9 at the Grand Ballroom of Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan, cast members including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-joon, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Jo Yu-ri, Chae Gook-hee, Lee Da-wit, No Jae-won, and director Hwang Dong-hyuk were in attendance.
When asked about the changes in Season 3, Lee Jung-jae explained, “Gi-hun undergoes a transformation driven by guilt over the death of a friend and his failure to save the people in the game. In Season 3, he decides to act upon what he can do within the game arena.”
Lee Byung-hun elaborated on the storyline, saying, “Gi-hun is devastated after losing his closest friend at the hands of the Front Man. Falling into a state of helplessness, he eventually regains his convictions and begins to plot a way to dismantle the system, driven by a belief in humanity.”
He added, “As the Front Man observes Gi-hun’s resolve, he devises a counter-strategy of his own. If Seasons 2 and 3 are viewed as one continuous narrative, Season 3 serves as the conclusive chapter. It’s an intense story both dramatically and thematically. In essence, it marks the true confrontation between the Front Man and Gi-hun.”
Scheduled for release on June 27, Squid Game Season 3 will depict the final fates of the characters, including Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the deadly game with a personal mission, and the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who continues to operate from the shadows.
Following the global success of Squid Game Season 1 in 2021 and the intense developments in Season 2 in 2024, this third installment will conclude the series.
