Stray Kids and Red Velvet’s Irene Step Up With Massive Wildfire Donations, Idols’ Goodwill Warms Hearts Amid National Tragedy

As wildfires continue to devastate parts of South Korea, top idols are stepping forward with generous donations, proving once again the powerful influence of K-pop stars in times of crisis.

Stray Kids and Red Velvet’s Irene Continue the Donation Rally

On April 1, Stray Kids and Red Velvet’s Irene were revealed to be among the latest to contribute substantial amounts to aid wildfire victims and emergency responders.

According to JYP Entertainment, Stray Kids donated a total of 800 million KRW (approx. 545,000 USD) —splitting the amount equally between the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association and World Vision Korea. The funds will be used to support emergency supplies, victims’ livelihoods, and firefighters’ efforts.

The group expressed, “We deeply empathize with the pain of those who lost their daily lives in an instant, and we want to express our gratitude to everyone working hard to help.”

Stray Kids have consistently upheld a strong record of philanthropy since their debut in 2014. Their past efforts include child sponsorship programs, domestic meal aid, emergency support during the Syria-Turkey earthquake, and global hunger relief. Members also made personal birthday donations of 100 million KRW each last year.

Meanwhile, Red Velvet’s Irene also joined the relief effort by donating 100 million KRW through the Community Chest of Korea. Her contribution will directly assist firefighters and displaced residents.

Irene shared, “I hope this small gesture brings comfort to those suffering from the wildfires. I sincerely thank the firefighters risking their lives in dangerous conditions.”

This isn’t Irene’s first act of compassion – she previously donated 100 million KRW in 2020 to aid medical staff and vulnerable citizens in Daegu during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Other idols are also answering the call. Red Velvet’s Seulgi donated 100 million KRW, and Wendy contributed 50 million KRW. Other idols, including SEVENTEEN, BTS’s Jungkook (1 billion KRW each), NCT’s Mark, Doyoung, and Jaehyun (100 million KRW each), Jungwoo and Johnny (50 million KRW each), TWICE’s Chaeyoung (100 million KRW), EXO’s Baekhyun (200 million KRW), Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon (100 million KRW), and G-Dragon (300 million KRW from concert proceeds) have also made donations.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, as of April 1, wildfires across 11 regions have scorched over 48,000 hectares, claiming 30 lives and injuring 45 others. Public donations have surged past 70.5 billion KRW, as communities rally together in support.

With idols like Stray Kids and Irene leading by example, their influence goes far beyond music, offering hope and healing in times of crisis. And it’s not just idols, many other public figures are also actively contributing to relief efforts.
