The Judge from Hell Episode 13 Recap
Before the first trial of the J serial killings, Sun-ho is attacked in prison. Being an important witness in this case, his presence was important for the trial and this sudden attack forced Bit-na to postpone the trial. After the court is adjourned, Da-on gets permission from his senior and goes to the hospital to check on Sun-ho. There, he tries to convince Sun-ho to give his statement in court but the latter refuses as he is scared of his brother.
Later, Da-on asks Bit-na how she got to be the judge in this case. Bit-na remembers how she convinced Tae-gyu that she would have him released in exchange for the body parts that he collected for Satan. Showing herself as a greedy demon who wishes for immortality, she can convince him by leaving him no chance to refuse her offer.
The day of the first trial finally arrives and the lawyers begin their argument with the defence trying to focus on Sun-ho’s drug addiction and the other murder having passed the statute of limit. Meanwhile, the prosecutor tries to make her wait for Sun-ho and she is not disappointed as Sun-ho does end up arriving in court. He gives his statement and exposes Tae-gyu’s crimes that he witnessed while also confessing his involvement in So-young’s murder.

With his confessions, the court is adjourned. Later, Da-on’s teammates find a hidden basement in Tae-gyu’s company and look for clues in the place. Upon entering the room, they find a leisure set-up with a television and find the tapes Tae-gyu recorded while killing all his victims. These are passed on as evidence and Bit-na goes through them all.
At the next trial, Bit-na once again asks Tae-gyu if he is behind the J serial killings and with no option in front of him, he stands up and confesses to being the killer. However, he holds no remorse towards those he killed as he feels that he has only liberated them from poverty. He felt like a god when he killed his victims and holds no remorse for all he has done is give them freedom from the families who couldn’t provide for them.
He enrages the crowd present in court with his words and Bit-na announces a break. After a short break, Da-on is brought to the stand to speak about So-young’s murder scene. After answering the questions, he asks for permission to speak as the sole survivor of one of Tae-gyu’s murders. With Bit-na’s permission, he speaks about how the man killed his mother while he hid in a room.
That day he vowed to become a police officer and catch the murderer. Now, like every other family of the victim, he pleads for a judgement that will liberate the survivors from the sufferings that they have gone through for years. With this, the court is once again adjourned. Later, Bit-na meets Mi-ja who tells her to let go of Tae-gyu and fulfil her duties as Justicia.
But thinking about Da-on and all the other survivors of the killings, she has already made her decision. Later, she tells about this to her subordinates who try to stop her but she is adamant about her choice and warns them to not let Da-on know about this. After this, she meets Da-on and makes him promise her that he won’t hate her no matter the decision she makes. He promises her the same and is satisfied by having caught the killer.
It is finally the day of judgement and Bit-na is ready with her choice. With a shaky voice, she speaks of the crimes listed and the evidence presented to the court. Finally, she has decided to take into account the serial killings from 25 years ago and has concluded to give Tae-gyu the death penalty. Cheers erupt in the courtroom while Tae-gyu looks at her in disbelief. Bit-na smiles at the people cheering from above while she walks away with teary eyes.
Later, Da-on takes her to his family’s memorial and cries with joy and the peace that he has finally found. Elsewhere, Sun-ho is given 15 years of imprisonment for his crimes. While leaving the court, he sees Bit-na and hands her a note while telling her to check his locker. In the following days, the public is cheering for Bit-na’s judgement while her boss quits after a whistleblowing incident.
Elsewhere, Myung-sook meets Tae-hyu and is infuriated by the man’s attitude as he explains to her how he killed her child. Drained from the visit, she returns home where Bit-na hands her the note given by Sun-ho. Turns out it is about the gift her son had brought her on the day of his murder and was left on the ground from where Sun-ho picked it up.

Myung-sook looks inside the package and finds a hand cream her son bought her years back and bursts into tears. Elsewhere, Tae-gyu gets a note with an escape plan for him. Meanwhile, Bit-na’s end is near and she has already made plans by lying to everyone that she is being moved to another location. As she meets the warrior from hell who is to put her life to an end, she tells him to wait for a little longer and he will be prepared by her subordinates.
With this, she goes to meet Da-on and reminisces how he made his way into her life, her world, and became her only weakness. Confessing her love for him, she kisses him and wishes him a final goodbye, without revealing the truth. However, the two are unaware that Tae-gyu has escaped from prison.
Later that night, Bit-na goes to the place where death awaits her while A-rong is unable to hold herself back and rushes to Da-on. She tells him that Bit-na is going to die and he makes a run for her. However, he is too late as Bit-na is already on the ground, bleeding to her death. He hurries her to the hospital, but it is of no use as Bit-na breathes her last.
The Judge from Hell Episode 13 Review
Episode 13 brought the scenes that we had all been waiting for through the trial held in court where Bit-na finally shows herself as an upright judge. Starting with her Justicia personality who didn’t care to listen to the person awaiting trial, to becoming Kang Bit-na, who gives Da-on a chance to speak his heart; she has developed the most throughout this show.
She has understood true judgement while falling in love with a human and this is a beauty that we can only find in this show. But this is an episode that has had multiple highlights. The cheers erupting in court when the judgement was announced, the saddening scene when Bit-na says her goodbye to Da-on, and even the scene when Myung-sook got to read her son’s final letter. These were the true highlights of this episode and I am happy that those tapes were neither shown to viewers nor the victims’ families, because from Bit-na’s expression, we know that they weren’t any good.
Once again, I will have to point out to the fabulous performance put out by Park Shin-hye and Kim Jae-young who have so beautifully portrayed their characters. Their chemistry is flawless, their performance is even better and I have to say that this is one of the best shows of this year. Altogether, this was an eventful episode and I can see why they would have Tae-gyu escape (we all need Bit-na back and with Da-on and Tae-gyu being sent to hell by Bit-na is the only actual way for that to happen).
Now all that’s left to see is how the final episode plays out, and if it would satisfy the viewers.
