In the 9th episode of KBS2’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “Perfect Family”, which aired on Sep 11th, the past ill-fated relationship between Choi Jin-hyuk (played by Kim Byung-chul) and Choi Hyun-min (played by Yoon Sang-hyun) began to surface.
Jin-hyuk confided in Detective Shin Dong-ho (played by Kim Do-hyun), revealing his troubled past with Hyun-min. He explained that Hyun-min killed his own son and served 12 years in prison, and after his release, he blackmailed Jin-hyuk for money using his daughter Choi Sun-hee (played by Park Joo-hyun) as leverage.
The truth behind Park Kyung-ho’s (played by Kim Young-dae) death was also revealed. On the night of the fire, Hyun-min witnessed Eun-joo (played by Yoon Se-ah) checking on Kyung-ho’s condition. In exchange for covering up the incident, Hyun-min demanded money from Eun-joo. Out of fear that Sun-hee would be labeled a murderer, Eun-joo complied with his demands. Despite the dire situation, her maternal instinct to protect her daughter touched viewers’ hearts. It was later revealed that Hyun-min started the fire after Eun-joo left Kyung-ho’s house, shocking viewers.
Jin-hyuk and Eun-joo decided to send Sun-hee abroad to escape Hyun-min’s relentless demands. They also planned to kill Hyun-min by preparing peanut powder, knowing about his severe allergy. This plan cleared up Sun-hee’s misunderstanding, who believed her parents were trying to harm her. After confessing everything, Jin-hyuk and Eun-joo began working closely with Detective Dong-ho.
Meanwhile, a tense standoff occurred in an abandoned warehouse by the docks, where Hyun-min held Sun-hee captive. Jin-hyuk arrived with the briefcase of money as Hyun-min demanded, but Hyun-min broke his promise and aimed a gun at Sun-hee.
At that moment, a sniper waiting nearby shot at Hyun-min, bringing the situation to a temporary close. However, Sun-hee ran toward her biological father Hyun-min instead of Jin-hyuk, leaving Jin-hyuk in emotional turmoil. Hyun-min, barely able to stand, held a gun to Sun-hee’s head and retreated into the warehouse. Sun-hee felt an undeniable, fateful attraction to Hyun-min, who had been shot, and she desperately pressed down on his blood-soaked wound.
Overcome with rage, Jin-hyuk stormed into the warehouse, engaging in a brutal fight with Hyun-min. The two tumbled out of a window, leaving Sun-hee in despair.
At the end of the episode, the past between Jin-hyuk and Hyun-min was revealed. The two first became entangled after meeting in connection to a happy-slapping case. It was also revealed that Jin-hyuk’s real name is Choi Hyun-min. There is another hidden story behind Jin-hyuk’s name change, which makes viewers eagerly anticipate the next episode. In episode 9 of “Perfect Family”, the hidden details of past events were gradually uncovered, resolving some of viewers’ questions. However, the unresolved battle for truth between Jin-hyuk and Hyun-min remains, sparking curiosity about how their fates will unfold in the end.
