A former idol in his 30s has been indicted for falsifying medical records to avoid mandatory military service.

The Changwon District Prosecutor’s Office Criminal Division 3 announced on the 9th that they have indicted former idol group member A (in his 30s) without detention on charges of violating the Military Service Act.

The prosecution also revealed that A’s mother, B, and a nurse, C, who assisted in the crime, have been indicted as well.

A is accused of conspiring with his mother, B, in May 2021 to falsify medical records under a doctor’s name in order to avoid mandatory military service.

He was originally classified as Grade 1, eligible for active duty, during his military examination, but it was investigated that he used the falsified medical records to lower his military examination result to Grade 4.

Initially, the police had dismissed the case, citing a lack of evidence to prove A and B’s denial of the crime and the deceit of the Military Manpower Administration. However, following a request from the prosecution, the police re-investigated and forwarded the case. The prosecution requested the re-investigation after analyzing recorded phone conversations between the co-conspirators and determining there was sufficient evidence.

The prosecution, upon receiving the case, confirmed through a medical appraisal of the MRI images submitted during the military examination that there was no disease cited as a reason for A’s military service reduction.

Additionally, they identified and indicted nurse C, who had accessed the hospital’s electronic system at the request of A’s mother to falsify the medical records.

A is known to have completed his military service as a social service worker after being finally classified as Grade 4 during his military examination.

If A is ultimately found guilty of violating the Military Service Act, he will be required to undergo a new physical examination and serve military duty according to the new classification.
