Lee Jung Eun (The Frog, Miss Night and Day, Daily Dose of Sunshine, Juvenile Justice, Law School) and Twinkling Watermelon‘s Shin Eun Soo play a loving mother-daughter duo in Light Shop.
Light Shop is a story that unravels when people with secrets visit a mysterious light shop, the only place that lights up the end of a dark alley. A-list actors, including Ju Ji Hoon, Park Bo Young, Uhm Tae Goo, Bae Sung Woo, Lee Jung Eun, and more, are starring in the K-drama.
Lee Jung Eun plays Jung Yu Hui, a mother who sends her daughter, Hyun Ju, to the light shop daily to run errands for the shop. Actress Shin Eun Soo plays Hyun Ju, who visits the store every day to fulfill this promise to her mother, only to encounter strange and mysterious events.
One of the stills gives a glimpse of the cozy relationship between the mother-daughter duo. In contrast, a scene of them looking somewhere on a rainy night with worried expressions captures their full immersion in the roles and stirs curiosity about the events that will unfold.
Both Lee Jung Eun and Shin Eun Soo shared that their deep admiration for author Kang Full’s work led them to join this project.
Lee Jung Eun, in particular, expressed her amazement at how intricately the characters’ expressions are depicted in Kang Full’s webtoon, saying, The expressions are so delicately illustrated, they’re almost breathtaking. I wondered, what kind of emotions would give way to such expressions,” revealing that she studied the original characters’ facial expressions in preparation for her role.
Regarding Lee Jung Eun’s dedication to emotional expression, Kang Full remarked, “I wondered if anyone could convey emotions with just expressions, but Lee Jung Eun was my tear button.”
Director Kim Hee Won added high praise for the veteran actress, saying Lee is “a senior I respect. She is my eternal persona.”
Meanwhile, Shin Eun Soo shared that working on a project with a respected director and esteemed senior actors was a moving experience, noting, “Director Kim Hee Won already had specific ideas about how the scenes should be acted, so I learned a lot while acting.”
Kang Full praised Shin’s suitability for the role of Hyun Ju, saying, “Hyun Ju has a certain level of determination and a strong relationship with her mother, and Shin Eun Soo fits that role perfectly.”
Finally, Lee Jung Eun and Eun Soo spoke warmly about their on-screen dynamic. Lee said, “We connected well from day one. I’m so lucky to have met her as my [on-screen] daughter.”
Shin expressed her gratitude to Lee, saying, “She took care of me as if she were my real mom, and that helped [me] portray the soft side [of my character] well. She also waited patiently and encouraged me, allowing me to perform the emotional scenes with sincerity.”
Light Shop will air a total of 8 episodes. The K-drama will release four episodes on December 4, followed by two episodes each week, only on Disney+.
