On August 24th, Uhm Jung-hwa shared unpublished photos from a recent fashion shoot with a magazine on her social media.
The photos reveal Uhm Jung-hwa confidently flaunting a bold black see-through dress, embodying a striking and seductive look.
At 55, Uhm Jung-hwa showcased an incredible S-line figure, leaving many in awe. In the comment section, actress Chun Woo-hee expressed her amazement with “Amazing,” while close friend Kim Wan-sun reacted with surprised emojis. Uhm’s junior, Jo Kwon, also responded with hearts.
In the interview with Singles magazine, Uhm Jung-hwa was asked which term best describes her. She responded, “The phrase that seems to fit me best is ‘I guess I’m a role model.’”
She continued, “Although there are great senior artists in Korea, there hasn’t been a role model who consistently shows the sexy and powerful image I’m pursuing, which made me feel an ambiguous fear about how long I could continue making music. So I thought, ‘I need to do well and become a role model.’” She added, “It’s a term that is truly meaningful and precious to me.”
Renowned for her unique expressiveness on stage, Uhm Jung-hwa said, “I’ve enjoyed this since the past. I believed it was my color.”
As a trailblazer in K-pop, Uhm Jung-hwa is known for her fearless and bold challenges. She noted, “I’m very timid and worried a lot, but I often find it fascinating how I’ve managed to come this far. Although I’m concerned about small things, I tend to be more daring with big challenges. I’ve also been lucky.”
Uhm Jung-hwa revealed that she has struggled with her musical identity. She shared, “Every moment was tough. Each moment was filled with mountains to overcome. I often thought about how to break through these mountains. When creating my 10th album, I desperately sought help from Teddy, who was a producer at YG Entertainment at the time. After constant contemplation and seeking help, the song ‘DISCO,’ which is Uhm Jung-hwa’s representative hit, came out. Although I couldn’t sing again due to issues with my vocal cords, I have always thought of how crises like that can always happen, and how I can overcome and resolve these challenges.”
Uhm Jung-hwa added, “The songs that have given me important moments vary with each album, but recently, ‘Ending Credit’ has been the most meaningful to me. I’m truly grateful that I was able to leave behind that one song when I felt lost. It’s deeply meaningful that not only people my age but also younger people empathize with and love it as if it were their own story.”
She also mentioned, “The drama ‘Doctor Cha’ is another such work for me. It’s a project that has helped me take another step forward in the future.”
Regarding her next steps, Uhm Jung-hwa shared, “I haven’t decided yet if it will be an album, a film, or a drama, but I’m currently reflecting on where my musical self has reached and contemplating. If there is a new album, I hope it will include bright, uplifting songs like ‘DISCO’ or ‘Festival’ that can inspire people and maintain a sexy vibe.”
Meanwhile, the September issue will be the special 20th-anniversary issue of Singles featuring Uhm Jung-hwa’s charming photos and interview.
