Netflix has unveiled its latest series, “The WONDERfools”, along with its star-studded cast, including Park Eun-bin and Cha Eun-woo in lead roles. They’ll be joined by renowned actors like Kim Hae-sook, Choi Dae-hoon, Lim Seong-jae, and Son Hyun-joo, showcasing a powerful lineup.
“The WONDERfools” is set in 1999, amidst end-of-the-world paranoia, and follows a group of unlikely heroes who gain superpowers in a freak accident and face off against villains threatening peace in Haeseong City. It brings a unique blend of superhero comedy and action adventure, a genre rarely explored by Netflix in Korea.
Park Eun-bin plays Chae-ni, a lovable character who unexpectedly gains superpowers after an unforeseen event. Cha Eun-woo stars as Lee Un-jeong, a socially awkward civil servant from Seoul, committed to principles at work but a mysterious figure outside, involved in a series of disappearances.
Veteran actress Kim Hae-sook plays Chae-ni’s grandmother, Kim Jeon-bok, who owns a restaurant and harbors a glamorous yet dark past. Son Hyun-joo adds tension as the cold and ambitious Ha Won-do. Choi Dae-hoon will take on the role of Son Kyung-hoon, a notorious troublemaker, while Lim Seong-jae plays Kang Robin, Haeseong’s resident oddball.
The series’ stellar cast is complemented by an impressive production team. Director Yoo In-shik, known for “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and “Dr. Romantic”, helms the project. The screenplay is written by Huh Da-joong, who adapted “Extreme Job”, with Kang Eun-kyung, creator of “Gyeongseong Creature”, involved as well.
“The WONDERfools” is co-produced by Romantic Crew and Kakao Entertainment, with Fantagio also participating in the production.
