Was BLACKPINK’s Rosé Hinting At Her Past Controversies When Saying She Wants To Clear Up Misunderstandings?

During the interview, Rosé shared insights into her journey preparing for her first full-length solo album, Rosie, and the emotional highs and lows she’s encountered as an artist. She expressed a desire to reveal a more personal and honest side to her fans, describing the album’s theme as representing the “terrible twenties.” She noted, “At the end of the day, I want people to understand me and stop misunderstanding me as a person as well,” indicating her wish to address the speculations that have surrounded her.

Rosé’s remarks are particularly poignant given her recent experiences with controversies, including last year’s rumors from China linking her to drugs and dating rumors with actor Kang Dong-won.

Previously, Rosé was rumored to be dating Kang Dong-won, who is 16 years her senior. Fans and internet users pointed to “couple items” like matching necklaces and outerwear, as well as them being spotted together at an art fair at Seoul COEX, as potential signs of a relationship. Speculations intensified when they appeared in group photos from recent fashion events. YG Entertainment, her agency, did not confirm or deny the rumors, instead releasing a statement that it was a “private matter.” This ambiguous response led fans to speculate even further, sparking more attention around the age gap between Kang Dong-won, born in 1981, and Rosé, born in 1997.

YG Entertainment, known for keeping quiet about artists’ personal lives, eventually addressed the rumors directly to end the speculation. The agency stated, “We confirm that the dating rumors about Rosé are not true. We would appreciate your assistance in preventing the spread of misinformation.” They added, “While we previously noted that this was a private matter for the artist, due to the relentless speculation, we are issuing this clarification.”

The agency also took a firm stance against the drug rumors that originated in China, sparked by photos that some people used as “evidence.” Fans quickly moved to debunk the rumors, and when they spread within South Korea, YG stepped in to address the situation.

In response to these accusations, YG stated, “The rumors surrounding Rosé are entirely false. We are taking legal action against activities that violate our artist’s rights and harm their reputation. We are currently monitoring those responsible for creating and spreading these rumors, and we will proceed with no leniency.”

Looking to the future, Rosé assured fans that she aims to present her “true self” through her music, saying she’s ready to offer a unique experience to her fans, one that goes beyond her role as a BLACKPINK member and highlights her individual voice as an artist.
