When Life Gives You Tangerines Episode 8 Recap
The episode begins with Geum-myeong being taken to the police station where her bag is checked while she is questioned about the missing ring. Geum-myeong tells them that she is not a thief but when they ask her to call her parents, she adamantly refuses. Meanwhile, Gwan-sik is waiting near the university for his daughter when he sees the boy who clicked Geum-myeong’s pictures during the entrance ceremony. He finds out that the boy has been rejected by Geum-myeong several times, but he soon finds out that it is because his personality is similar to that of Gwan-sik’s.
Elsewhere, the parent who sent Geum-myeong to the police station is threatened by her housemaid to release Geum-myeong. Later, she asks her housemaid why she helped Geum-myeong, and she tells her that a person with a similar face once saved her in the past. This is the same woman whom Ae-sun and Gwan-sik had saved in the inn when they were scammed in Busan.

Meanwhile, Geum-myeong immediately calls home after facing such a situation and finds out that Gwan-sik is in Seoul. She rushes to her university and finds her father waiting for her patiently at the bus stop. Geum-myeong becomes emotional seeing him there but doesn’t show her tenderness in front of her father. Later, during dinner, she reveals her desire to go abroad for her studies and how she feels bad because despite being selected, she had to decline the opportunity because of her financial conditions.
Gwan-sik hears his daughter’s words and while saddened by her pain, he reassures her that he is still here to fulfil all her wishes. Later, when waiting for his bus back, Geum-myeong realises the tough journey he took to meet her and is once again filled with tears. And this time, she doesn’t hide back from waving him goodbye when he waves at her from inside the bus. But all Gwan-sik sees is the little girl who never grew up for him.

The scene shifts to Geum-myeong saying goodbye to her boyfriend on the station and later to the scene of her wedding where she prepares to walk down the aisle with her father. Hoping that she too has a love story as beautiful as her mother, she walks into an unknown future.
The theme then shifts to forgotten dreams and the loss of a loved one as Ae-sun puts up a stall at the writing competition she once used to take part in. Meanwhile, the pain of her lost son continues to follow the family as Ae-sun is unable to look at a child of that age while Gwan-sik still sees his son grow up deep within his heart.
However, life goes on and Ae-sun too is finally ready to open up her own shop. But, she finds out about her daughter’s desire to go abroad and decides to support her dream- even if it means giving up on the shop and also selling their house. As the family moves into a new house, Geum-myeong flies to her new dreams.

When Life Gives You Tangerines Episode 8 Review
The episode brings an end to this week’s dose of the show and we have to say, it doesn’t disappoint in any way. While the themes of the show continue to captivate the audience, I have loved the little bits of comedy that were added in this particular episode. This not only made the episode all the more fulfilling but also made it the perfect end to this week.
Ae-sun and Gwan-sik continue to represent a unique generation; the generation that didn’t have everything given to them, and also the generation that continued to give everything that they had with them. Selflessness and a heart to do their best for those around them, this generation has a beauty that can never be impersonated because what they have comes from deep within.
Meanwhile, Geum-myeong is not only inspired by this generation but also sees them as an ideal who not only found a beautiful love story amidst all the chaos but also did their best for the family. I absolutely love the way these characters are presented to us on screen, and seeing Geum-myeong fall for a man who is just like her father only added the cherry on the cake. We know that Gwan-sik has become the ultimate green flag for us all and seeing his daughter set her standards to his level is only all the more heartwarming.
Altogether, this was an intriguing episode that not only showed us the delicate relationship between parents and their children but also the pain of loss that is never forgotten.
