“Why did NewJeans alone receive 240 million won?” Controversy over discrimination among Seoul City PR ambassadors
It has been confirmed that NewJeans received the highest remuneration as a public relations ambassador for Seoul City, receiving 240 million won.
According to the ‘data on remuneration for public relations ambassadors over the past 5 years (2020 to 2024)’ requested by the Seoul Metropolitan Government by Rep. Kim Hye-young, a member of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, NewJeans received 240 million won in remuneration for public relations ambassadors of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
There were 55 celebrities appointed as public relations ambassadors for Seoul in the past 5 years, and NewJeans received 240 million won, more than half of the total 450 million won in compensation paid to them. That works out to about 50 million won per member. In addition, Public Relations Ambassador A, who is working as a designer, receives 40 million won, and Public Relations Ambassador B receives 20.5 million won. On the other hand, 29 out of 55 people work without pay.
