On August 29, a video featuring “Squid Game 2” actor Wi Ha-joon was published. In the video, Wi Ha-joons showcased his down-to-earth charm.
On this day, Wi Ha-joon revealed some audition stories related to “Squid Game”. Although he played the role of an undercover cop in the series, he mentioned that his role wasn’t initially decided. The director had expressed a desire not to cast actors who were tied up with other projects.
Wi Ha-joon was filming another drama at the time, so he thought he might not be connected to this project. However, since he was told it would just be a simple reading, he attended with a light heart. He recalled, “I had just popped a pimple and my hair was a mess, so I was wearing a hat.”
He continued, “When I walked in, there were numerous cameras waiting for me. But just in case, I memorized the script because I was anxious.” Reflecting on the experience, he said, “I realized that people should always be prepared. I learned that complacency is not an option.”
Released as a Netflix original in 2021, “Squid Game” became a global sensation, breaking records for viewership. Wi Ha-joon recalled, “My social media followers jumped to 10 million in a short period, with 100,000 new followers every day.”
Wi Ha-joon is confirmed to appear in “Squid Game 2”, which will be released in December. Given the huge success of the first season, he admitted to feeling some pressure.
In particular, when Shin Dong-yup asked, “Are you worried about whether it will receive as much love as Season 1?”, Wi Ha-joon hinted that his involvement was limited, saying, “I don’t have a significant role in the series. I just survived and came back, and that’s about it,”
The actor then went on to explain that his participation was more about making a brief reappearance.
“There isn’t much in my part that will make a big impact”, Wi Ha-joon revealed, at the same time expressed excitement by saying, “The new characters played by other actors are actually more interesting”
He also mentioned, “The scale of the games has grown, so there’s a lot more to see. The sets have become grander, and the backstories of the characters are well-developed.”
However, when asked to share more details, Wi Ha-joon joked, “If I say more, I’ll get fired,” which made everyone laugh.
