Will the Comeback of SEVENTEEN Be at Risk Amid Calls for Boycott Due to Diddy’s Connection?

On October 14, SEVENTEEN released their 12th mini-album, “Spill The Feels”, along with the title track “Love, Money, Fame”. This marks their second comeback of the year, following their Best Album in April. It’s also the first promotion without member Jeonghan, who enlisted in late September.

Before the album’s release, SEVENTEEN performed new songs, including “Love, Money, Fame”, during their world tour concert in Goyang on October 12-13. “Spill The Feels” features 6 tracks, including songs from the Hip-hop, Vocal, and Performance teams, showcasing the group’s growth and international appeal.

The title track combines pop elements with a fresh sound, featuring renowned DJ Khaled. It conveys a message of love and encourages listeners to share their feelings for a better future. The music video, shot in Thailand, presents a stylish urban vibe with artistic outdoor sets that highlight the group’s visuals and the song’s deep message. The choreography blends romantic hip-hop moves, reinforcing SEVENTEEN’s reputation as one of K-pop’s top dance groups.

However, SEVENTEEN’s comeback faced challenges due to controversies surrounding DJ Khaled’s connections to rapper Diddy. Some international fans called for a boycott of the title track, but SEVENTEEN’s commitment to quality prevailed. The mini-album sold 1.2 million copies within the first 40 minutes and reached 2.49 million on its first day, solidifying their status as the highest-selling group of 2024.

Here are some K-netizens reactions to SEVENTEEN’s new song:

  • The music is insane; Woozi is a genius.
  • It’s really easy to listen to and fits the current weather.
  • I heard a lot of talk about it, so I didn’t know what to expect, but the music is genuinely good. No need to worry about the song’s quality.
  • It’s so catchy. Easy to listen to and get into.
  • I thought there would be a boycott because of that DJ, but if the music is good, the performance will be solid. The reactions are more positive than expected.
  • This is definitely a song that doesn’t spark controversy. Sorry for criticizing it when I first heard the highlight medley…
