According to a report from The Korea Herald, the drama, which was expected to air in the second half of this year, has been removed from the broadcast schedule as production teams adjust the timeline amid the ongoing strike by healthcare workers.

Initially set to follow “Queen of Tears” on tvN in May, “Wise Resident Life” faced challenges as the medical strike continued, increasing public frustration, and making it difficult to proceed with this year’s broadcast.

On September 14th, the production team confirmed that the schedule is still being adjusted, and nothing has been finalized.

“Wise Resident Life” stars Go Yoon-jung, who gained popularity through last year’s Disney+ original series “Moving”. The show is a spin-off of “Hospital Playlist” that depicts doctors and medical staff dedicating themselves to patient care and hospital life.

The medical strike has significantly impacted drama production. Beyond just delaying the filming schedule, the strike has caused serious problems across the medical sector. Many hospitals have suspended essential medical services, leading to growing patient dissatisfaction and anxiety. In light of this, the drama production team stated they would not resume filming until the strike concludes.

“Wise Resident Life” has garnered high expectations from fans of “Hospital Playlist”. Since “Hospital Playlist” was beloved for its portrayal of the daily lives and human sides of doctors, the spin-off has been eagerly anticipated. However, due to the strike and scheduling issues, fans are now left disappointed.

Meanwhile, in the political sphere, there have been efforts to resolve the prolonged conflict between medical professionals and the government, with discussions about forming a “ruling-opposition medical cooperation body.” However, persuading the medical community remains difficult. The medical sector insists that the planned increase in medical school admissions next year must be scrapped. The government, on the other hand, has made it clear that “delaying the 2025 increase in medical school quotas is not feasible.”

Regarding the medical crisis, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo commented, “The government is partly responsible, but the primary responsibility lies with the residents. There is no precedent in any country for doctors abandoning critical patients and going on strike.
