Without BTS, K-Pop Fails to Secure Any Grammy Nomination for Second Consecutive Year

According to the Recording Academy, which organizes the Grammy Awards, no K-pop artists were listed in the final nominees announced on November 8. This marks the second consecutive year without a Grammy nomination for K-pop, following BTS’s streak as nominees for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” from 2020 to 2022.

One factor is likely that BTS and BLACKPINK, the two most internationally recognized K-pop groups, have been inactive as a whole due to BTS members’ military service and BLACKPINK’s focus on solo projects.

The Grammy Awards, established in 1959 by the Recording Academy—a collective of artists, producers, sound engineers, and critics—aim to recognize musical artistry and quality rather than commercial success or chart performance. Winners are chosen by member voting.

Notably, in 2022, BTS achieved a milestone by being nominated in three categories: “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance,” “Best Music Video,” and “Album of the Year.”
