Field News reported on September 19th that the Gangnam Tax Office’s investigation department under the Seoul National Tax Service conducted a tax investigation on MC Yoo Jae-seok for several weeks from June to July, but did not find any charges regarding tax filing errors.
According to the report, the tax audit was a general regular tax audit of high-income people such as celebrities, but it was conducted more intensely than ever considering the building worth tens of billions of won purchased by Yoo Jae-seok in the past and his annual income.
The tax agency has conducted intensive investigations into a series of tax items including high contribution fees and expenses in addition to the building Yoo purchased. However, even though the tax agency conducted an intensive investigation, no charges have been found against Yoo on purposeful omission of taxes or tax evasion.
An official from the assessment agency said through the media, “We could not find any charges, such as missing taxes,” adding, “It was no exaggeration to say that his tax return is also a national treasure trove.”
Meanwhile, the National Tax Service launched an irregular tax investigation into celebrities, athletes and webtoon writers early last year. In addition, the National Tax Service launched irregular tax investigations on actors Kwon Sang-woo, Lee Byung-hun, actress Han Hyo-joo and comedian Park Na-rae, and collected taxes ranging from tens of millions to billions of won.
