Yulhee Reveals Reason She Gave Up Children’s Custody to Minhwan + Why They Divorced

In a show, former LABOUM Yulhee confessed the real reason she had to give up custody of three children to ex-husband Choi Minhwan.

Why did they break up?

In the latest episode of TV Chosun’s “Now I’m Alone,” single mother Yulhee recalled the pain she suffered after divorce when she had to leave her three kids to her former husband, FTISLAND Minhwan.

The ex-couple tied the knot in 2018 and was blessed with a son and twin daughters. Unfortunately, they announced their divorce in 2023 after five years of being together. At the time, Yulhee got massive criticism for giving up the kids’ custody and later on flaunting her single life on social media.

During the broadcast, the former K-pop idol clarified the reason behind her decision.

“I wanted my children to grow up in well-protected economic and realistic conditions. We lived in a large family, and I was seeing my children live happily, and it’s a very good environment in reality.”

In a YouTube vlog she uploaded, she further explained that she initially wanted to take the kids with her, with Choi Minhwan paying her $36,200 for their new home and $1,450 for child support every month on top of dividing their assets on both sides.

However, Yulhee wanted to ask for a more reasonable sum, which would only lead to a lawsuit.

As she was so emotionally tired from all that, she decided not to split assets and not pay child support, instead, she would have to give up the kids to him.

Yulhee stated that Minhwan was the one who brought up getting a divorce. Later on, revealed in her vlog that she was constantly badmouthed by his family and would embarrass her. She also claimed that the male idol wasn’t faithful to her during their marriage.

However, reporter Lee Jin Ho, an infamous insider, revealed in an article that the reasons also stemmed from Yulhee’s lifestyle. She was a night owl and had a hard time waking up in the morning to take the children to school, which required three hours of commute to take them to a prestigious kindergarten.

This job was left to Minhwan’s care and would receive help from their in-laws, which sparked fights between the couple.

While Yulhee also supported the family’s income during the pandemic, the couple’s relationship became estranged due to differences in their priorities.
