Departures in K-pop groups are always going to be a shocker for the community, no matter what the reason may be. However, some netizens claimed that other groups may have found more success after the departure of a certain member.

On October 14, netizens gathered in a forum, titled, “Cases Where the Group Becomes Better After a Member Leaves?”

Here are 5 K-pop groups mentioned in the thread:

1. LE SSERAFIM

Netizens included LE SSERAFIM in the forum, with many recalling former member Garam’s school violence allegations in 2022. The controversy caused a massive stir inside the K-pop community at that time and while netizens claimed that it made a huge buzz for the group, the issue didn’t define LE SSERAFIM in their success as a fourth-gen group.

2. WINNER

According to the post, WINNER was also mentioned by the netters, recounting the departure of former member turned soloist Nam Taehyun.

Netizens claimed that WINNER received more exposure and a change of musical direction.

3. (G)I-DLE

(G)I-DLE’s case is the most debatable among all groups on the list, as the fourth-gen act has already been gaining steady momentum prior to Soojin’s departure in August 2021.

Despite the controversy, (G)I-DLE continued to strive for new heights with their music.

4. Stray Kids

Originally a nine-membered group that debuted in 2018, Stray Kids initially had former member Woojin in the lineup. However, he left in October 2019.

K-netz in the forum mentioned the “Chk Chk Boom” singers since they are currently going global and blowing up internationally.

5. NMIXX

Jinni’s time in NMIXX was short-lived since the former member left the group in December 2022. Netizens have included the group due to the gradual building of their fandom through numerous music releases.
