On December 27, KBS 2TV’s “The Seasons: Lee Young-ji’s Rainbow” aired a year-end special episode titled “So, Love” to wrap up the year.
During the episode, actor Go Kyung-pyo, whose rendition of “…We Were In Love…” garnered a staggering 9 million views, appeared as a guest. He expressed his gratitude, “Thank you for the 9 million views, and thanks to Lyn for allowing me to remake her song.” He added, “I’m grateful to be part of today’s lineup.” In response, Lee Young-ji joked “You also appeared on ‘Zico’s Artist’—your first visit had to land on our year-end special episode”, drawing laughter.
Lee Young-ji congratulated him on his latest accomplishment, saying “You even released an official album! You clearly had a plan all along” as she introduced his new song “Missing You”. Go Kyung-pyo revealed that he collaborated with singer-songwriter Ju Eun, whom he became acquainted with after appearing in one of her music videos. He shared, “That connection led Ju Eun to write this song for me.”
Go Kyung-pyo shared the backstory of his song “Missing You”. He said, “Four years ago, my mother passed away. The lyrics express my longing for her.” He wrote the lyrics himself, infusing the song with his deep emotions. He explained “It’s a song dedicated to loved ones. One line says, ‘If you call my name, say ‘I love you’.’ My mother used to tell me ‘Kyung-pyo, I love you’ at the end of every phone call. That’s the line that resonates with me the most because it’s something I can no longer hear”, leaving the audience deeply moved.
Go Kyung-pyo went on to reflect on love, “To me, love is a place you return to—whether it’s family or friends. No matter the storms you face, I hope everyone can hold onto that place. Let’s return to love!” At the end of his performance, Go Kyung-pyo surprised the audience by revealing a photo of his late mother, saying, “This is my mother.” The heartfelt moment left many in tears.
Meanwhile, in 2020, Go Kyung-pyo faced the devastating loss of his mother. His mother, who had been battling illness, passed away unexpectedly during his service, leaving many saddened by the news.
Reflecting on that time, Go Kyung-pyo shared, “I enlisted while my mother was ill, and I struggled with depression. However, my fellow soldiers supported me and gave me strength, for which I’m truly grateful. After my mother passed away, my outlook on life changed drastically. She was my entire world, and when she was gone, I felt like everything ended. My father, my family and I all had to start anew, forming new relationships and rebuilding everything from the ground up.”
