Reports suggest that filming took place under strict secrecy last year, raising expectations as DiCaprio, a self-proclaimed fan of the series, has reportedly joined the cast.
According to OSEN on January 1, the Hollywood actor has completed filming for Netflix’s mega-hit series “Squid Game 3“. He is said to make a surprise appearance when the season releases this summer. While his screen time is reportedly limited, details about his character remain tightly under wraps to avoid spoilers.
Netflix, however, drew a line, “We’ve heard the talk about Leonardo DiCaprio’s appearance, but it’s not true.”
In 2021, shortly after the release of Season 1, lead actor Lee Jung-jae was photographed with DiCaprio at the “LACMA Art+Film Gala” in Los Angeles, sparking conversations about their connection. Later, during a red carpet interview at the SAG Awards, where Lee Jung-jae won “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series”, he was asked which American actor he would like to see in Season 2. He replied “Leonardo DiCaprio“, catching attention.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk also hinted at the possibility of Hollywood involvement in 2022. During a press conference in Seoul celebrating the show’s six Emmy wins, he said, “Leonardo DiCaprio personally mentioned being a fan of ‘Squid Game’. We even talked about asking him to join. Many actors have shown their love and interest in the series.“
Meanwhile, “Squid Game 2” followed the story of Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the deadly game seeking revenge, and his fierce confrontation with the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun). Season 3 is slated for release in the latter half of this year.
