Here’s What Inspired the Script for Park Shin Hye’s “The Judge from Hell”

The writer of The Judge from Hell revealed she got the inspiration for the drama from a comment.

The Judge from Hell is an action fantasy K-drama about a demon, Kang Bit Na (Park Shin Hye), who inhabits the body of an elite judge. In a hellish reality, she meets the passionate human detective Han Da On (Kim Jae Young) and becomes a true judge by dispensing justice to wrongdoers.

Writer Jo Yi Soo revealed the inspiration behind The Judge from Hell: “I once came across an article about a verdict that was too lenient for the perpetrator’s [crime] and hard to accept. The most agreed-upon comment in the article’s comment section was ‘This is a verdict that would make even the devil cry.’ At that moment, the idea of ‘What if a devil became a judge?’ came to mind, and I made a note of ‘A devil from hell becomes a judge and starts sorting out human trash.’ That was the beginning of The Judge from Hell.

So, what does Jo Yi Soo consider the charm and key points of The Judge from Hell? “The drama contains a variety of interesting elements such as fantasy, crime, action, and romance. A major highlight of the drama is the demonic retribution of Kang Bit Na that unfolds after the trial is over and the real judgment begins.”

She continued, “Additionally, The Judge from Hell features characters with unique personalities who have a significant impact on Kang Bit Na, including Han Da On (Kim Jae Young), showcasing various types of relationships. I would appreciate it if viewers would support Kang Bit Na, as she forms special relationships with various characters, including Han Da On, and through those experiences, grows into an excellent judge.”

SBS unveiled a new teaser for The Judge from Hell

The teaser begins with Kang Bit Na revealing her identity, saying, ‘I’m a devil. I came from hell.’ The teaser continues to intercut scenes showcasing the diverse charms of Kang Bit Na. Whether she’s being called ‘crazy’ or ‘a total nutcase,’ Kang Bit Na cheerfully smiles and says, ‘How do I look? Pretty, right?’ Her lovable appearance contrasts with the scene where, after being told to behave in the courtroom, she fiercely responds, ‘Is this Cheonghak-dong?’ and crushes a cola can.

This lovable yet wicked demon is infuriated by humans more devilish than herself. With her mysterious purple eyes glowing, she mercilessly judges sinners.

Whether she’s smiling wickedly with blood splattered on her face or coldly declaring, “You want me to stop? I’m just getting started!”, Kang Bit Na is undeniably a one-of-a-kind K-drama judge.

The Judge from Hell will premiere on September 21. The K-drama will be available to stream on Disney+. Watch the teaser here.
