The public still associates “Summer Queen” with SISTAR and thinks of their music when they think of summer. What did SISTAR mean to Hyolyn? She said, “SISTAR can’t be described in one word. The image, vibe, personality, and color that people think of, that’s all us. Our music was something that only the four of us could create together. That’s why SISTAR is SISTAR.” She added, “I often hear talks about a reunion, but there hasn’t been any concrete discussion yet. We are very considerate of each other. If the opportunity arises, I would love to do it.”
Hyolyn also shared, “My favorite SISTAR song is ‘I Swear.’ I loved leading the song with my voice, and I liked how it was composed.” She continued, “SISTAR received so much love, and even though it’s been seven years since we disbanded, people still miss us. At the time, I didn’t fully realize how much love we were getting. I didn’t have the luxury to feel it completely, and that’s a bit of a regret.”
It wasn’t until seven years after SISTAR disbanded that a “next-generation SISTAR” appeared. The group KISS OF LIFE, who debuted in July last year, gained attention this summer with their song “Sticky” which led to comments like, “It feels like SISTAR is back.” Hyolyn praised them, “I really like KISS OF LIFE. I’ve been watching them since their debut. They’re doing so well, and they’re adorable. Honestly, their dance style and music are very different from what was popular during my time, but since I’m still active as a singer, I find their music familiar and enjoyable.”
As a solo artist, Hyolyn has one wish: to release a full-length album. Since going solo, she has only released digital singles and mini-albums but has yet to drop a full album. Hyolyn shared, “I don’t want to be good at just one thing. If you’re going to do it, why not be good at everything? It’s tough to settle for knowing only one thing. That’s boring and leads to stagnation. Even if it’s a small improvement, you should always aim to be better than before. Whether it’s your appearance, dance, or body, I understand that in this line of work, you need to be better today than yesterday and better tomorrow than today.”
She continued, “I want to release a full album. Although there’s always a title track, for a singer, every track is the title track. However, because only the title track gets attention, the other songs are often just ‘included.’ Those tracks also tell different stories and show musical diversity within the album. But because the title track is highlighted, it makes it hard to release mini albums. I wish people would listen to and love all the songs, but it’s a concern and a regret.”
In November, Hyolyn will kick off her “2024 U.S. Tour,” starting in Los Angeles on November 1st, followed by stops in Dallas on the 2nd and Seattle on the 3rd, where she will meet her global fans. She shared her excitement, saying, “I last toured in the U.S. towards the end of SISTAR’s activities, so this will be my first U.S. tour in seven years. I need to show what I’ve been doing and the music I’ve been making. I’m thinking about the setlist and what I want to present. Since I love singing and dancing, I want to perform a variety of performances.”
