On December 18th, Hyun Bin appeared on tvN’s program “You Quiz on the Block”. Regarding his feelings about featuring in a talk show after 13 years, the actor said, “I’m not used to telling stories about myself so I’m a little nervous right now”.
Hyun Bin recalled how he developed the dream of becoming an actor, saying “I was an ordinary high school student back then, a brother whom I was really close to asked me to join a theater class and I agreed. After doing a performance, the audience applauded, and it hit me so differently. I felt like I just achieved something”.
He continued, “My parents were against it, especially my father. He said he would allow me to pursue acting if I got accepted to the Department of Theater and Film at Chung Ang University, and I made it. Since then, he has given me his full support”.
Regarding “My Lovely Sam Soon”, the drama that made Hyun Bin’s name become known by the public, he said, “It also gave me an opportunity to meet many great actors and drama staff”. However, he also confessed regrets about not being able to enjoy the moment of being loved by the whole nation at the age of 24 and appreciate it a little more.
He then mentioned his syndrome-level popularity after “Secret Garden”. Hyun Bin said, “I enlisted right at that time. When I received so much love from viewers, I was always on the filming set. After completing all the filming, I enlisted in the Marine Corps”, adding “I completed my military service and came back. Seeing my colleagues’ projects, I couldn’t wait to start acting again. Once again, I realized that I loved acting so much”.
Regarding “Crash Landing on You”, the drama that he completed right before marrying Son Ye-jin, the actor confessed, “The drama gave me so many things. It helped me meet my wife”, adding “We filmed the movie ‘The Negotiation’ together before but didn’t have many scenes together. Therefore, I wished we could do a romcom someday and it became a reality with ‘Crash Landing on You’”.
When asked about how his love with Son Ye-jin developed, he said, “We were friends, but became lovers after the drama ended. It happened naturally as we talked to each other a lot while working on the drama and after the drama ended. After the drama, we continued to have private meetings and shoot some CFs together”. About working in the same field as his wife, the actor said, “It has both advantages and disadvantages”.
Lastly, Hyun Bin sent an affectionate video message to his wife and son, saying “Ever since you gave birth to our son until now, you have done so many great things and I really respect you for that. It must have been so hard for you to do everything when I was busy filming, so I want to thank you for having silently endured it and overcome that time”, adding “Son, if you came out on the scheduled date, Dad wouldn’t have been able to cut the umbilical cord by myself. Thank you for coming out and seeing me before I went abroad for filming”.
