One-star review of ‘MEOW’ on IZM

The cat’s meowing, which accounts for a full minute out of a song that’s less than three minutes long, carries no intention or meaning. The weightless repetition forced into the intro, outro, chorus overdubbing, and even the rap part quickly becomes tiresome, and most importantly, it steals the spotlight from the members’ voices. It seems like Teddy didn’t participate in composing this song. This debut song from the first girl group under his label is frankly crude.

The simple combination of the bass and kick drums throughout the whole song fades out due to the identical structure of both verses and the 30-second instrument break, meant to showcase the choreography, dulls the little impression the song leaves. The monotonous rhythm, inaudible lyrics, hollow repetition, and one-dimensional progression all fail. This is because the song fails to achieve one between the image they want to showcase and the message they want to convey, leaving a vagueness. If there is one thing worth noting, it’s Gawon’s vocals. But the song isn’t solid enough to highlight the individual strengths of the other members. I wonder why they think one forgettable hook song seems more important than a good piece of music you’d want to listen to over and over again?

-I agree…

-I finally finished being brainwashed and I came to actually like the songă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹

-But seriously, why did they make their debut song, a song they’ll have to perform over and over again at concerts and on TV, something that just goes yayayayaya’?ă… ă… ă… ă…

-I love the song. I liked it even more after watching the choreography video.

-I enjoy the song because I like the group, but when I look at the song alone, it makes me question ‘This is a song?’. I can’t express it well, I’m not good with wordsă…‹ă…‹

-I love it so much that I listen to it every dayă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ They’re the only girl group I’m actively searching for performances of, but damn it, there are no stages…

-I listen to it every day…ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ 1 star is too harshă…‹ă…‹ă…‹

-I think it was a good song for getting their name out there, especially since there are so many girl groups now. I’m looking forward to their next song.

-I get what he’s trying to say, but I still enjoy listening to ită…‹ă…‹ă…‹

-The lyrics in MEOW are literally ‘yayaya’ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹ă…‹

-I started liking the members’ charm more after watching their stage performances, but the song is still disappointing. Teddy, please help them out more.

-It’s just so predictable and clichĂ©… not fun at all.

-Teddy should’ve put in more effort since this is the first group he’s putting his name behind… Even if he didn’t compose it, that doesn’t excuse it. Being the head of the label means you’re responsible for these things…
