Request to Investigate Song Mino and Public Official Over Alleged “Military Service Deal”

On December 24, the Seoul Mapo Police Station confirmed that it had received a request to investigate suspicions of a “military service deal” between Song Mino and L, the manager of the Mapo Resident Convenience Facility where Song Mino served as a public service worker.

This comes after the police began an internal investigation following a public complaint filed through the National Sinmungo regarding accusations of Song Mino fabricating attendance records. The police requested the preservation of CCTV footage from the facility to verify these claims.

This investigation request raises suspicions about L’s alleged inappropriate involvement in reassigning Song Mino’s duty station. The request cites the 2024 Public Service Worker Manual, which states that reassignment due to health or psychological issues is restricted for institutions capable of internal adjustments. The request calls for scrutiny into whether L unjustly influenced the reassignment process.

Furthermore, the document highlights whistleblower testimonies alleging that Song Mino received various preferential treatments during his service. It also questions why L, who transferred to the Mapo Resident Convenience Facility, brought Song Mino to the same facility within a month. The whistleblower suggests that this may have been a premeditated arrangement to offer Song Mino favorable working conditions, possibly indicative of a “military service deal”.

The request urges the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged relationship between Song Mino and L. It also calls for a seizure and search warrant for their communication records, financial transactions and attendance records to uncover the truth behind these allegations.

Song Mino, who completed his alternative service on December 23, has faced accusations of not showing up at his workplace after traveling abroad in October and being absent on his last day of service. Additional allegations from fellow public service workers claim that Song Mino frequently skipped work, received special privileges due to his celebrity status and failed to comply with dress code regulations.

Song Mino’s agency, YG Entertainment, stated, “It is difficult to verify detailed information regarding the artist’s service. However, the reasons for his sick leave are extensions of treatments he was receiving prior to his service, and all other leave was used in compliance with regulations.”

The police and the Military Manpower Administration are actively investigating these claims. Both Song Mino and YG Entertainment have stated they will closely monitor the progress and outcomes of the investigations.
