On the evening of November 15, Rosé (BLACKPINK) hosted a livestream on her personal Instagram, where she revealed snippets of several songs from her upcoming album, rosie. The idol previewed six tracks: Number One Girl, Game Boy, Toxic Till The End, 3 AM, Not The Same, and 2 Years. Among them, Toxic Till The End has drawn significant attention from netizens for its lyrics, which are believed to hint at a toxic relationship Rosé once experienced.
The lyrics of Toxic Till The End include the lines: “Call this what we are, toxic from the start. Can’t pretend that I was in the dark. When you met my friends, you didn’t even try with them. I shut them out and then you didn’t trust them. Possessive, so manipulating. Honestly, impressive. You had me participating.”
The lyrics suggest that Rosé, a BLACKPINK member, was manipulated and controlled by her partner. On social media, Toxic Till The End has gone viral. Previously, in an interview with Paper Magazine (USA), Rosé mentioned enduring significant emotional pain during a toxic relationship in her twenties:
“I think I’ve been lucky enough to experience a few relationships, just like any other girl in her twenties. I want people to understand that I’m not so different from an ordinary girlfriend or a 23-year-old woman. If you listen to my songs, you’ll find them relatable, especially if you’ve ever gone through a similar relationship.”
Netizens believe the events may have occurred around 2019, as that was when Rosé tearfully performed during a solo stage and also wrote the song Gone. The melancholic ballad tells the story of a broken relationship and the loneliness of being left behind for someone else.
Recently, three individuals—Suzy, Cha Eun Woo, and Kang Dong Won—have been speculated by netizens to be involved, as all three have been linked to Rosé in dating rumors. Suzy, in particular, has been frequently mentioned. Rumors of a romantic relationship between the two top K-pop idols began in 2020, with fans pointing out striking coincidences in their Instagram posts from 2019, including shared travel locations, matching items, and similar captions, leading some fans to believe the two had dated.
The album, consisting of 15 tracks, blends pop influences with emotionally charged narratives reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s music. It delves into themes of heartbreak, toxic “red flags,” sleepless 3 a.m. nights, and relationships that grow increasingly harmful until the bitter end. rosie is set for release on December 6.
According to Ten Asia, Rosé will also make an appearance at the 2024 MAMA Awards in Japan on November 22-23.
