Romance in the House brings the fascinating, dramatic, and a little comic tale of a father who is trying to reunite with his family after being kicked out for dragging them through serious financial struggles. The story revolves around Byun Moo-jin and his struggle to reunite with his wife Geum Ae-yeon after he returns as a successful man, and also the owner of the villa building they live in.

A flashback of Moo-jin and Ae-yeon getting their wedding picture opens up the episode, where Moo-jin promises to love her for a lifetime as they happily take their picture. Meanwhile, Jeong-in’s past makes us curious as she tries to return some money she owes him back and informs him of her failed pregnancy upon returning to South Korea, which bothers him.

The next day, Ae-yeon returns the gifts given to her the previous day and tells Mi-rae to stop the childish fight she is having with Moo-jin, which offends Mi-rae. Later, she heads to have a meal with Moo-jin which he has been insistent about and makes it clear to him that he should move on and date someone else.

Ae-yeon tells him they are like a broken plate that cannot be fixed again, and it would be better for them to go their separate ways. She tells him that he should at least be considerate as a parent towards Mi-rae who is having a hard time because of him. She now has a family consisting of only three people and that is how it will be, without him.

Moo-jin is stunned but all he says to her is that if this is what she wanted to say then she shouldn’t have looked so pretty, calling her a heartless person, he leaves. The next day, Ae-yeon goes for a little picnic with Mi-rae where the latter asks her about her divorce, and if it was because of her.

Ae-yeon tells her that the divorce was needed back then and while they did strengthen her to take the stey, it was no fault of theirs. Later, Ae-yeon goes to catch up with the neighbours when Mi-rae needs to leave due to work. She is pulled to get her nails done when Moo-jin’s topic pops up and Ae-yeon speaks of how she wishes for him to get someone else, which is overheard by Jeong-in.

Elsewhere, Mi-rae realises that she is probably falling for Tae-pyeong and tries to create space between them. Meanwhile, Ae-yeon gets hold of a drunk Jeong-in and takes her back home where the latter talks about wanting to be Ae-yeon. While Ae-yeon doesn’t think about it much, the picture of Jeong-in and Moo-jin is seen by her which opens a floodgate of questions. She begins to doubt if the man who impregnated Jeong-in in Thailand was Moo-jin.

This, accompanied by Moo-jin’s sudden disappearance, leads Ae-yeon to spend the next few days in a daze as she thinks about Jeong-in and Moo-jin’s relationship. Meanwhile, a problem occurs at work for Mi-rae and she rushes to fix it with a partnered company’s head who is also her company’s CEO’s aunt. Tae-pyeong overhears this and accompanies her for the same.

The two rush to the seaside where Mi-rae tries to talk to the company head but fails. Right then, Tae-pyeong comes running and addresses her as a grandmother as he begins to act cute so that she can give them a chance. Upon getting this chance, Mi-rae doesn’t back down in grabbing the deal which helps them solve the issue within moments.

The two then head to the beach where Tae-pyeong asks her to scream out loud into the sea when they hear another voice near them, it is none other than Moo-jin. The two are shocked while Moo-jin is embarrassed upon being caught red-handed. Mi-rae asks him about what happened and he tells her that he is soothing his broken heart.

Listening to his reason, Mi-rae tells him that this is why he shouldn’t have come back. Moo-jin tells her that his reason for coming back was to make amends and lessen the burden resting on her shoulders. With this, he leaves and warns Tae-pyeong on the passing that he has no chance here as the women of this household are done with athletes.

The next day, Mi-rae catches Hyeong-jin out of school and finds out that he has been taking things easy and fantasizing about becoming rich by starting a business. This makes her frustrated as she understands that Moo-jin’s return has caused this mess. She calls Moo-jin to meet and they head to one of the tenant’s bars.

Ae-yeon also tries to meet Moo-jin and finds out about his location through the tenant whose bar he is sitting in Meanwhile, Mi-rae meets Moo-jin who hands her property transfer papers and tells her that he will be leaving soon as per their deal. Mi-rae is shocked upon seeing this and gets angry as she tells him that he will not leave until he fixes the troubles Hyeon-jin has caused and that she will be sending her brother to him to take up responsibility.

Moo-jin is shocked but it soon turns to confusion when Mi-rae tells him that he will need to be a parent even when he never wanted to be one. However, before he can talk about this, Mi-rae spots Ae-yeon and the two hide as they know that meeting Ae-yeon right now would create a big mess. Moo-jin then tells her that he will leave first and distract Ae-yeon.

Ae-yeon catches him leaving and wants to know who he has been meeting. Moo-jin tries to hide Mi-rae and picks Ae-yeon to take her away from there. Ae-yeon then asks him about his relationship with Jeong-in and if was the one who got her pregnant. Moo-jin knows that there is some misunderstanding, but upon spotting Ae-yeon’s jealousy, he doesn’t reveal anything and leaves to walk in a happy mood.

Right then, Ae-yeon hits an egg on his head from the back leaving him shocked.

Romance in the House Episode 5 Review

As emotions slowly unwrap and the characters dive deeper into their complexities, the plot gets intriguing and complex but without leaving the comedy behind. This mix brings about interesting concepts for viewers as it keeps you hooked on the many colours brought about in the show. A little bit of everything and instead of a mess, we get a beautiful piece of work that has us waiting for the next episode.

This episode shows the emotions Mi-rae, Ae-yeon and Moo-jin are trying to deny, while Mi-rae and Tae-pyeong try to understand their feelings towards each other. However, like always it is still Mi-rae and Moo-jin who bring out the most complexities with their characters as a push-and-pull relationship continues between them.

Altogether, the plot is finally picking up and we are ready to see the changes that are soon to be brought in as the first half of the show is soon to come to an end.
